    Question...

I've been told I will qualify for the disability element of WTC and i've read it and it seems like I do, however one doubt...

    4. All of the following points apply to you.

Your gross earnings (before tax and national insurance contributions are taken off) are at least 20% less than they were before you had the disability.

Your gross earnings (before tax and national insurance contributions are taken off) are at least £15 per week less than they were before you had the disability.

What are they basing the above on? The last tax year and was on ESA.

EDIT - Ignore - I think - It looks like condition 3 is a choice of 1-4 and I qualify under one of the other choices - been getting ESA - i'm confused!
  • My Inc Benefit being long term was always disregarded for TC calculations. I was awarded conrt based ESA from Feb 2013, which is taxable , I understand this, however, my TC award today is based on my benefits being counted as income for the full yr- apr 2012-april 2013.
My taxable benefits for this period are £680 only, BUT they are using the figure of £5748.
To recap, from april 2012-feb 2013, my benefit was IB which should still have been disregarded, Am I correct?
  • I am as confused as you are. I was on IB then changed to ESA/WRAG this year. I am currently on cont. based which ends in Jan 2014 when it goes to income related. I was told at JCPlus that we could claim WTC in Jan so I rang today, explained the forthcoming financial issue and was told we're entitled to no WTC. My husband works but doesn't earn enough to support us both yet he's over the limit for wtc. I told the advisor that the wtc system only works if you know how to screw it and that it's a complete waste of time for honest claimants. He gave no reply.
  • Hi

I have a question for anyone one who knows. I stopped claiming tax credits last year as I was no longer entitled with the changes. However my husband lost his job last may and I claimed again at the end of the summer as our income had changed significantly. We received appox £200 over two months but I then informed them of my husbands return to work and they estimated the likely household income for 2013/14. I was told to over estimate as they will pay anything owed at renewal. As the year draws closer I think our earnings will be about 2000 lower than I estimated. I am about to receive tax credits again as I have had a second baby.

However I have been informed any drop in income lower than 2500 is ignored. Does that mean they won't pay anything they owe at renewal?

    Thanks for your help.

    Nat

Dean1491- I doubt your spam is of any relevance to anyone on this forum "Our dedicated tax experts can help find the best possible solution for your federal and state tax situation and negotiate with the IRS and state on your behalf."

There is a big difference between US IRS and state taxes and Tax Credits from the UK
  • I can't remember - will HMRC automatically send out a renewal form in April?

Hi everyone, just a quick question

I've been receiving tax credits this tax year (2013/14) due to a very low income in the previous tax year (£6000 in 2012/13).

However this year I've actually earned around £20,000, so obviously when I renew my claim soon I won't be eligible for them in the next tax year (2014/15), but could they ask for the tax credits for 2013/14 back, since I've earned over the threshold? Or am I safe as its all based on my 2012/13 earnings?

I think you were supposed to tell them if your income went up more than £5000. I suspect you will have an overpayment.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

What figures did you supply them when you made your claim, have you advised them of changes during the year?

If you told them the previous year was £6k and 13/14 would be £20k they would have based the award on £15k...what does your award letter say?
