Hi everyone, ive done my tax credit renewal over the phone and have estimated my income for this tax year as there is a significant reduction in income expected. Will the new payments be backdated to april and if so will i receive them as a lump sum in the next few weeks, at the end of this tax year or will the extra amount be spread over the remaining payments for the year? The lady on the phone sounded so rushed (i'd been on hold a while so they were obv mega busy) so I didnt want to hold her up by asking questions0

Hi
I normally receive a WTC payment each week and I just received 2 payments in the same week the first payment was as normal on the usual day the second was for about two thirds of the standard payment i received and came the day after my normal payment.
Should i inform WTC about this extra payment as I worried they have
over paid me. I recently renewed my WTC via the renewal forms so could this payment be anything to do with that maybe.
Any help welcome0 -
Hi all
Can anyone help me on this???
I'm struggling with our Tax Credits renewal,
My partner is a sub contractor and his contractor deducts him 20% tax each week under the CIS scheme. I'm employed and work 24 hours per week.
Tax credits states self employed people work out their profits by working out the difference between all the money they made from doing work or selling goods and the cost of doing that business which is easy to work out for someone self employed in their own right and is yet to pay tax.
Well the money my partner "made" is what his contractor pays, which is minus tax so which figure should I be using? The "made" minus tax figure or the gross figure before tax is deducted.
Hope this makes sense, I would be happy to ask Tax Credits but don't trust them!
Many thanks.0 -
Hi there. My partner is moving in at the end of August and I will no longer be entitle to work or child tax credits. When I call them to let them know when he is moving in do I have to tell them who he is or do they not really need to know?0

They will probably ask for his details, but that is a much for them to link your details together for all benefits, not just this.
Not sure they can insist on his full details, although it probably makes it harder to process closing the claim on their end.
If you state his name and the date he moves in, but don't know his DOB or NI, given that you are confirming the claim will be ending anyway you would think they would just be glad to sign you off lol.
From their POV they would want him added to your claim as a joint claimant and a "nil" award made so that if your joint income fell the award could just be reactivated.

BTW does anyone know what happens if you have sent the renewal in, but it doesn't get awarded prior to 31st July. Not even had a prov award yet and wondering if I will get any pay later this week."Overthinking every little thing

Well got an extra payment of tax credits today (a day early) so looks like something has been done on the award, will see what lands tomorrow.

A friend of mine has never claimed WTC before. He doesn't know if he would be entitled or not.
He works 18.5 hrs a week & is single with no children. Does anyone know whether it would be worth applying?0 -

He is 30. Sorry should have mentioned it.0 -
A single person needs to work a minimum 30 hours to get WTC as well as being over 25 years old. And be earning less than £12k per year.0
