Tax credit renewal - general questions (merged)

Hi, new here and hope someone can help
Started claiming tc last June after I had my lo. I gave them 09-10 figure as £25k and then estimated income as 7k due to mp etc. I was always informed they were holding a potential payment of approx £700 even in April they confirmed this was the case.
Renewed on Tuesday as follows: 09-10 actual income 23.5k 10-11 actual 7463. So underestimated 09-10 and over estimated 10-11. I assumed this would even itself out and I would still be entitled to lump sum so been eagerly checking my account every day.
I called them today as I was becoming impatient and the lady told me I am now not entitled to the lump sum as I was overpaid between April and now but in contradiction told me my new payments will be going up by 30-40 per month???!!!! Then she said that it looked like I was owed a lump sum of around £500 but they are holding on to it this year in case of any overpayments?? But I've given them actual figures!
Do you think this is right or do you think she just didn't know what she was talking about...
Thanks

I am self-employed as a childminder and have completed the on-line questions to see if I am eligible for working tax credit. I am entitled to some money and was wondering if I will need to supply some proof of my income. All my income is paid straight into my bank account by childcare vouchers and cheques. If I send copies of my bank statements will that be ok?
Any advice would be much appreciated, thanks0 -
Not sure what to do? I got my renewal forms for the tax credits but my son is just finishing his a levels and does not know what he is going to do Depends on his results. Do i fill it in as if he is going to college (he is not going to uni) or as if he has left but not working ? Would he apply for job seekers?Make £11,000 in 2011 / ebay £6000

If your circumstances are not changed at the moment then just go ahead and do your renewal.
When your son decides what he is going to do (that includes signing on) then you call TCO up and let them know. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
You need to have the same proof of income that you keep in case your self-assessment tax return is investigated.
Do you keep a receipt book so that you can give your clients proof that they have paid you? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
hi there
my friends husband is going self-employed and they have told ctc that they guess he will earn 15,000 between now and next april, i thought that if it goes above this figure you need to inform them immediately, but in the back of my mind there is a thing about disregard??? so that maybe they can earn more??? Sorry not explaining it too well, any ideas if i am right about the figure going higher and it not mattering if its below a certain point?
Thanks in advance0 -
sorry not disregard, is it a threshold that if it goes over a certain amount above 15,000 you have to tell them? x0
-
There are not "thresholds" as such. The disregard is only relevant when comparing the joint household income from previous year to current year. The "threshold" at which each household becomes entitled to tax credits depends on their individual circumstances (number of children, childcare costs, hours worked...). I should advise your friend to keep Tax Credits informed of any change to this estimated figure since at the end of the day - it will be the actual figures on the self-assessment tax return that matters rather than any estimate.
