Driving 450 miles last year decided the same. Set cruise to 70 (with the sat nav), away we go.
You overtake someone who thinks they're doing 70 then back into lane 1. We're in a large old people carrier that they dont think should be in front of them (see the same when in the works van).
They overtake you again within a mile or 2 then go back down to their idea of 70. Before long your right up behind them again. The cycle repeats.
Why don't you drive at sixty-five miles per hour (or even slightly less). If your journey is four hundred and fifty miles, you are likely to save a lot of money in fuel costs and it only puts about twenty minutes onto your journey. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -
TBH I get the same, if not better fuel economy driving at the speed limit on a motorway than I could if driving at 50mph so I think the saving mpg argument is nonsense. Also, does the OP not realise just how dangerous it is for him and other drivers around him if entering a motorway at way below the prevailing speed.
Aah, you must be driving one of those magic cars then. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0 -

I bet these are the same people who complain when the price of petrol goes up?! I drive at speed limits in built up areas and seldom go over 50mph on motorways & duel carriageways? So why are so many idiots still bombing around for? If your late for work then too bad you should've got up earlier & planned better!
Is anyone else seeing this familiar pattern?
Yes I am and its driving me nuts, especially the idiots who join the motorway at 40mph, which is fine if the traffic is all doing 40mph.
People like you should use public transport and get off the road, if you see a driver like me, do you shout out "its a speed limit not a target"?0 -
Not really, I get much better avg mpg cruising on a motorway at 70 in sixth gear then I'd do at 50 in fifth. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

Sorry, BSM do not conduct driving tests in the UK, that is down to the DSA.
It shows how rubbish BSM are.
Driving test examiners will expect a test candidate to keep up with the flow of traffic and if the conditions allow they will expect the candidate to be able to demonstrate that they can drive safely at the speed limit and make adequate progress. If they drive at a speed which is below the speed limit in conditions which are deemed safe to drive faster then they will be failed for this."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

I don't think they would be failed for driving at fifty miles per hour on a motorway.....ooh hang on, driving test and motorway??
I didn't mention motorway in my post, just a comment about keeping up with the flow of traffic."You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"
