Thats why he included the forward slash ////
And that's why I included the ;). :wall:
The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark

If I'm on the motorway then I'm doing a loooong journey, going at 50 would add hours onto some journeys. A tired driver = a dangerous driver. Also, there will be people going faster who can't always overtake you, get frustrated and pull out stupidly - potentially causing accidents.

I think the best thing to do is to drive to the speed limits (where possible), but make an effort to drive efficiently.
It would have to be some journey, three hundred and fifty miles to add on two hours of travelling time, at twenty-miles per hour less the speed limit on a motorway.

On a long journey, i start off with the best intentions .... but after about an hour on the motorway, i've had enough, and the foot goes down ........
On a long journey I maintain the good intentions, not too hard with cruise control.

Well, it's not my fault that you fail to see humour, especially when it is so obviously pointed out.

    You would think so but....

Driving 450 miles last year decided the same. Set cruise to 70 (with the sat nav), away we go.

You overtake someone who thinks they're doing 70 then back into lane 1. We're in a large old people carrier that they dont think should be in front of them (see the same when in the works van).

They overtake you again within a mile or 2 then go back down to their idea of 70. Before long your right up behind them again. The cycle repeats.

Thats nothing - 350 miles only gets you to somewhere 175 miles away and back - I often do similar (although slightly shorter) journeys in one day when going on business trips.

Furthermore - my employer only allows us to drive up to a working day of 10 hours. If the day is going to be longer than this we have to book a hotel and stay over night to continue the next day.

That means we have accrued extra hours, spent money on a hotel and subsistence and hired a car for an extra day. All in this comes to an extra £320 in costs (assuming going 2 hours over) - you can double this if someone else joins me on the trip.

I sometimes have to do 600 mile journeys each way to visit family (N.Scotland to East of England). They already take over 10 hours with no traffic problems!

I drive everywhere at the speed limit, if I have to drive on a motorway then I drive @ 70 (or a bit more ;) )

I want to get where I'm going as quickly as possible, not fart about at 40-50 mph to save a few mpg... I know the price of fuel & if I can't afford my journey without being a hazard I don't go!

TBH I get the same, if not better fuel economy driving at the speed limit on a motorway than I could if driving at 50mph so I think the saving mpg argument is nonsense. Also, does the OP not realise just how dangerous it is for him and other drivers around him if entering a motorway at way below the prevailing speed.
