Inactive, sorry, I'm in NI - aren't L drivers restricted to 45mph?!! I know you don't have R plates (displayed for 1 year after passing, and also limited to 45) but I thought that L drivers were restricted to 45, no?! That's mad!
No not here, once they pass they can then drive to the roads limit. Must say the NI way seems a better idea!;)0 -

My driving instructor told me id likely fail my test for doing less than 50 in a 60 limit on a clear road, so if 10 mph too low is bad, then im sure 20 is even worse.
Maybe the 45 thing is just for NI“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

If i'm in no rush to get somewhere, want to add a few more miles to the tank and want to enjoy the journey, I simply just drive behind a truck which is limited to 56 or so.
At the end of the day, drive to the conditions on the road at the time. If it's daytime, weather is good and the road is pretty much straight, then you should be doing upto the speed limit as you can (dependent on the traffic in front of you), but if it's dark on an unlit road with tight windy bits in it, then fair enough, sticking to the NSL all the way through might not such be a good idea.0 -

Your instructor is right, it is part of the DSA standards, however DSA standards are not law.
I dont have a problem with people driving 50mph on the inside lane on dual/motorway nor do I about people driving at 70mph whizzing pass those driving slower. Perhaps OP need not to ask or be concern about people driving faster than him, upto speed limits in a safe manner is fine.0 -
