I'm much like others in using the main board, then copying regulars into a "daily tab". I didn't know that things had changed, and was wondering why my tab group was rapidly dwindling. I went to the regulars, and lo and behold, lots of comps I'd never seen! I'd like it to go back to how it was before please. x

Out of interest, what's the maximum amount of time a redirect can last for? And do they show on the board in the order by their original title so for example 'E: 01/01 Win...' would be 'Moved E: 01/01 Win...' in the same place as it would have been had it not had the 'Moved' bit infront?

I've just thought of what could be a perfect solution, but it depends on these things!

Bear with me and I'll try and explain :D

If a redirect could be left indefinitely and they show up in the order of the title, then could everything be posted on the main board AND then moved over to the regulars with an indefinite redirect in it's place on the main board?

I reckon this would work for everyone as it would still be listed on the main board (which would help both people that comp as they're posted AND people that comp by end date) but then in turn it also helps people that use the regulars board as the redirect would go to the post that's in there?

Edited to add: If everything was posted on the main board it would really rely on everyone to send the links to be put into the daily, weekly and monthly stickies. One problem I can see with posting everything on the main board and leaving it there is that a lot of the regulars are posted without end dates because they go on indefinitely, how (in what format I mean) would these be posted on the main board?

redirects are optional when we move a thread ie we can choose no redirect (which we do for merges) a permanent redirect, or any variation of days, weeks and months up to 10 months,
so we could choose a redirect to last for the life of the comp we have just moved, or pretty near, and the redirect would then just disappear about the same time the comp was moved to GO

re comps with no end dates - that's been confusing me too as to a way of having them on the main board

I love the way that BGH split the daily sticky into subsections and would really like to see some of this information in comp titles, esp if they all moved to main. At the very least, daily, weekly or monthly should go into the title, I would also like to see some info on if its a daily prize or just extra entries, iyswim.

I would like to reg comps defined better and to try out keeping both boards.

some suggestions for possible definations poll on if they are regs or not...

multiple entry - purchase required comps

    comps with daily entry

    comps with same prize repeating

comps with daily prize - same Q - different Q

comps with daily entry - same Q - different Q

    then similair for weekly...

I don't think just because a site has a comp every week, that automatically means it is a reg comp, even if its the same url

I am sorry but in case this suggestion gets missed, I am shamelessly going to quote myself again, as this thread in itself proves a need as it was sooo hard to have this discussion in the main Discussion thread. I would be grateful for others views on the need for a Compers Chat Section as well :)

just to get back on topic of any possible changes to the comps forum. Is there any way that we could get a Compers Chat sub board added where we could just have general and varied comps gossip threads in. We could then ask questions and hold any chit chat when theres a good comp running on various threads in there, debates, help how do I do type threads, etc....

Whereas at the moment I agree that lots of topics get lost in this thread or in the Inn, iyswim. Also I can see that its hard to keep up with this thread, esp when theres a hot topic or a thread gets merged into it.

Just thought I would throw the idea into the melting pot...

I prefer all comps on main board with a link to regulars too. It seems to encompass all, whichever style we personally use to comp.

Well put cornishpasty1 #4 this get my vote as I rarely go over to the regulars board so miss some comps completely.
At least when they're on the main board I'm in with a chance, and bookmark the ones I want to enter more then once.

p.s. Cornish, so sorry that you're still not posting, soon you'll be wondering where you got the time. Hope the comping fairy brings you something nice. x

I've been comping since end of October and there's quite a bit of confusion on what goes where.

I only ever popped into Regular thread when I saw discussions on it. I didn't really get to grips with it. However I liked the way the Advents were done (thanks to Toniq!) and got used to daily entries.
I now have a tab on my spreadsheet for dailies. If its an enter everyday (like Whats on TV) I thank the OP in the origanal thread and add the URL to my list.
If its a quiz one I add the MSE thread link to my list.
I've not got to weekly ones at all! If a monthly appears in the main board I thank the OP and add URL to another tab on my spreadsheet with the date I entered.
As you can see from the above its complicated enough to follow Main and Regs already!

I personally would like all posts in one place with links as we did with the Advents. If its a regular then link it with a list for one off entry / daily same answer / daily new answers etc.

The work done recently by bargainhuntergirl has made the regs for daily comps much easier to follow.

There will always be some compers that want something different from others. It's all about balance. ;)
Thanks to those that post the comps!!

    My thoughts on the matter

Firstly I am very confused by all this. I went into the regulars board once last year, it looked so confusing that I just left again. I dont personally see the point in it.

Why can't we have it so that any regulars that have no end date (didn't know there was such a thing!!) start with "E: 00/00 .......(daily/weekly/monthly)" and the regulars that do have end dates that need updating daily are just bumped and updated daily, provided the bumping is to do with the competition and not chit chat.?

I also think that there needs to be a list (if there isn't already) of who does what comps on a regular basis as it is difficult to join here and get the hang of it and the comps board does have quite a few rules etc to learn.

Voting comps are not the same as referrals so I think they should justify their own bit of the comps forum, just like the regulars do atm. Where people can start a new thread if they want votes and people who don't want to vote can just ignore it then. Some poeple do vote as we are all a community and here to help each other after all.

Comps that are from facebook/twitter/blogs should say so in the title. Comps that have very specific T&C's should also be stated in the title such as no flights, certain area only. I know most do already but it does just make life that little bit easier.

At the end of the day we are all here to enjoy ourselves and we have lost some brilliant posters because everythign is so complicated.

Just as another thought, why can't we have a thread, such as we did for the advents with all the dailies on them? But keep this sticky on the main board.

    Questions for polls.

    1. Do you use the regulars
    2. How do you search for comps .. eg .. by end date, as they are posted etc.

Thats all I can think of for now. :)

Ok, my overall feeling about this is why did we have to have the debate in the first place? Everything was working just fine by relying on the veteran posters to just "know" where things go. The reason so many people have got upset by it is the apparantly unilateral descision to start moving threads based on a very loose set of rules.

I would actually like it to stay the same as it was 3 months ago, with the majority or competitons for example Scifi online, to be posted on the main board, with a link to the daily sticky. And very obviously regular ones like the Battery force daily that requires no further intervention other than remembering to enter it, should be posted once, linked to the sticky and left to sink to the back of the forum.

We need to keep the stickys for Weekly, Monthly and Daily for those that use them, although I actually use a spreadsheet with hyperlinks for mine and add to it as I come across a new multiple entry one from the Main board. Which incidently is why of course I have now been missing new ones.

So all a poll really needs to ask is:

Do you want to move all regular comps off the main board and put in the regular forum?

Do you think we should post all comps on the main forum and link to a D/W/M sticky and close the Regular board?

Should we still have a mixture of the two but have a very clearly defined guideline as to what constitutes a regular?

Thanks for allowing us to have our tuppance worth :)
That ain't working! That's the way to do it, money for nothing and TV's for free ;)

I think Mamzies idea's are a good start at finding a way to rearrange the regular comps.I've been comping via msn for just over a year now and have to admit to avoiding the regular comps most of the time.
Also I have been put off of posting comps I come across as I have found people to be too critical-it was really offputting and downheartening, especially to a newbie. The main reason I use mse is that overall people are friendly and helpful but there are some that try to spoil it.People should view change as a good thing and a positive step forward, not a negative thing.
Thanks everyone for helping with my new hobby,am well and truly addicted and have come across some incredible people during my first year.

I only go on the regulars board now and again - & I unlike others have plenty of time to comp.

I find that its very difficult to work out which comps are new on monthly and weekly ones.
Are they put at the bottom of the lists, or midway and changed when the prize changes?
Daily ones are now working properly, but it is so much easier to subscibe to them without notification, and put into a daily comp thread in user cp, or in bookmarks (if you bookmark them, at least when MSE does go down you can still do them)

Its very easy to comp from the main board from the new Topic Button, you only need to go back to the last green entered tick to find out where you left off.
It doesn't seem to matter how long you leave it, you can still find where you are. I had to go back a couple of weeks not long ago.
Not so (I don't think - unless its just me) with the regulars boards.

When we used to do comps waybackwhen, it WAS difficult to keep up, but since the board was tweeked with the date ending, and New Topic Button, it really is easy to work out where you are - not though when the comps are shifted to regular or now supposedly to be posted in there. I was then that the regular comp boards were born, they were needed - and apart from the daily comps & the Advent one, they are now superfluous to need. And, I am sure they must be causing the BG's a lot more work than is needed.

Sorry, but the comps forum has been spoilt and if we are not careful, there won't be comps to do, as the regular posters get heartily sick of the whole lot (as some already have).
I might add, I don't post many comps nowadays as most have been covered by someone who posts regularly - so feel as though I could be treading on someone elses patch.
