maybe the first poll should be a simple do you use the Regulars board YES/NO

I agree this would be sufficent for the BG's and MSE team to gauge the feelings of most members. Thanks Amilucky :)
  • The problem with having a Yes or No poll for or against the regulars board as a whole with the board in it's current format (ie. maybe not as tidy, streamlined or defined as it could be) is that it might be decided to get rid of it, but it may be that there are some ways that can work for everyone with both boards working side by side that would mean the result of the poll might be different?

I have been comping for about two years now, only recently got completely up to date, so searching by new comps posted, and ventured into regular section, without finding anything worth entering there. The exception being the Puzzler and TAB puzzles threads, which, once you get to grips with them, work perfectly!
At the moment, I bookmark all comps I am planning to do into user CP, by Month, in case there is a lot of them, separating them into email folder (do that separately), but facebook ones get entered as normal comp (dont do twitter and blogs too or god forbid effort!), and when I come across a comp that is newly posted be it a regular monthly or a daily or a weekly I save it in a separate CP folder and go there on a regular basis (OK, I make a note which one when in Filofax), and if it is a daily add it to bookmarks on browser's bookmark tabs.
To sum up, I dont use regular board, and think that a link to a stickie thread in a main forum to keep them all together is all that is needed.
With regard to Advents, Dailys with different questions etc stickies for advents and one main thread for all diff answers is all that is needed, IMHO.
So do we really need a poll if everybody more or less agrees that reg section is to be incorporated more fully into main forum? But by all means bring it on!

As with regard to the questions- I suggest
Do you want regular comps forum to remain YES/NO

but as I say above i think the answer is pretty clear, but we may as well have a referendum to make it fair.

If for some reason the answer is YES, then we can run another poll on options to improve/modify, but before we get BG to deal witht he mammoth task maybe we can establish first what the consensus is on its very existence.

I have only been comping since October and am very grateful to everyone for their hard work and the use of their time posting competitions for us all to have a chance of winning.

I don't get much time to visit the Regulars Board so stick to using the Main Board.

    Example poll:

"Do you prefer a "weekly" competition to be posted as one single thread which you have to go back to each week, or posted as a separate thread each week with separate title and end date?"
  • Hi,

yes, i think we need to run a poll..

    1. Do you use the regulars board on a regular basis ie: every day/week/month.
    2. Would you prefer the monthly comps only to be posted on the main board.
    3. Should all comps be posted on the main board with a link to be posted in Regulars.
    4. Should we just keep the Daily Regular thread & not the other two.

    .

    Sounds good to me....

    Hi

Not wishing to avoid answering the question about the poll, as I tend to stick to the main board. However I did find the advent board really easy to use, you could just go to the main page and link from there and the comps were still on the main board, I think.

So could the regulars board be run with a front page list, or are there too many, too complicated?

    Thanks
    Andy

Could I add another tuppence worth while we're discussing the threads:

I would love to see comps left where there are once posted, not bumped when someone posts something on there. That way it wouldn't be like shuffling cards, the comps would all stay at the time they were posted, and comments etc are just tagged on the end. People would then not get upset for people saying things as it wouldn't move up the board.
You can do that on an individual basis if you want it by changing the options at the bottom to 'thread start time' and then whichever way around you want it. :D

Thats's much better, thanks for that bargainhuntergal :A

  • Seeing as there are only two main options that keep cropping up, why don't we have a poll that asks which you prefer:

Regular boards to stay but with a link to comps on main board?

    OR

Regular comps posted to main boards with no separate regular board?

Personally, I use the regular comps board every day - I used to save dailies to my own list but found I was missing loads of them. Plus, if you comp by end date then you only find the regular comps on the day they end.

What's wrong with keeping the regular board with links to the comps? If you don't want to use it then don't but don't take it away altogether.

I totally agree with cornishpasty though - I always though the idea was to link from the regular boards to the main board - I don't know when or why that changed but it serves no purpose at all.

    I agree.

For those who liked the advent sticky - i always thought the regulars sub board is exactly the same as that, its just a sub board not a sticky. (or am i over simplifying it!?)
The advents cant be a sub board as they are only around once a year.
