skimmed through the thread, this problem only seems to be a recent one so can't things just go back to the way they were before? It seemed to work ok then and with the new enter button bumping to add a new answer on the main board shouldn't be a problem for those not wanting to enterBestof2013-AcerLaptop,years supply of Lindt chocolate,Family to Spain,£500,13 bottles of Wine,iPhone 5,2 night island break,Pedal Bike&Helmet,HuntersWellies,TomTomGPSWatch,3 bottlesVodka

I think it's a quieter time of the year for comps in general, when you look at the ones that have been moved over, there's not actually that many, but there are far fewer comps than there has been previously when going through page by page in end date order (and overall pages on the main board, it's normally closer to 250ish, that's about 70-80 pages difference and there's only 23 pages worth of comps on regulars altogether!!) I think it's just to do with the natural peaks and troughs.
I think with regard to the definition of what's regular, it should be about both how often you can enter AND how often there's a draw, you can't really seperate the two as you might be able to enter daily and there's a prize weekly, so it's a daily even though it's a weekly prize.
Even if it's only one draw at the end (so the ones I've put into the extra entries sections on dailies) and you only enter once, it doesn't mean that others don't enter each day/week/month as allowed by the terms and therefore want them to be included with the dailies/weeklies/monthlies.
With the dailies, I could have seperated them more, so purchase required section split the same way, daily prize draw, instant win, extra entries if required, but what I wanted to do was to keep the sections as simple as possible so I kept it to how many times there's a draw (instants I put seperately as there's no specific draw)
So the ones where theres one prize up for grabs daily AND you enter daily (for either the same prize [ie. Battery Force] or a different prize [ie. Glamour] and via the same link [ie. Light Bulbs First] or a different link [ie. Company])
So then all the extra entries you can enter daily via the same link and there's either one prize at the end, one prize weekly, one prize monthly, etc, so people can either choose to enter each one once, or they can enter the maximum of times if they so wish.0 -
For what it is worth I would like to see all comps on the main board with links to the daily/weekly/monthly where relevant, and a new post for each comp from the same source, not a bump to an existing thread.“D’you know what a loser is?
A real loser is someone who’s so afraid of not winning, they don’t even try.”

hi BHG, what do you think the options for the poll should/could beas you run the dailys your input for the questions would be interesting

Regular boards to stay but with a link to comps on main board?
OR
Regular comps posted to main boards with no separate regular board?

I realise that poll topics are being asked for so that MSE can then make informed decisions (rather than have some form of referendum). However, I have been considering what the eventual rules would be.
I would suggest questions such as
"Should ALL competitions be posted to the main board?"
"If yes, what exceptions should there be?"
"Should all competitions be posted as new threads rather than added to existing threads?"
"Any exceptions to this?"
The reason I suggest this is that the new "entered" button (and the end date format for the title) only works at thread level but there some excellent threads (thinking Puzzler here) that could be popular exceptions.
I don't really understand "regulars" and think it would help if we also considered a category of "repeat entry". For example the Whats on TV comps have irregular end dates but you can enter every day until the end date. I guess most people would prefer these to be posted on the main board with a link added to a "Daily Entry" sticky somewhere.
There is then the Daily Radio Caroline comp which is a different entry/question each day (with a weekly prize just to confuse matters!). Although this is a "regular" I think it worked well when it was posted on the main board as the new question bumped it back to the top of the board. Moving it to the regulars board meant I lost sight of it.
I think this illustrates the fact that how people use the board will influence how they want it set up.
I really just want to see a clearly identified set of rules for posting that have an associated suggested way of working.0 -
Example poll:
"Do you prefer a "weekly" competition to be posted as one single thread which you have to go back to each week, or posted as a separate thread each week with separate title and end date?"=====================================================================
My suggestion would be:
1. All the comps to go on the main board with a link to it on the dailies/weeklies/monthlies sticky threads.
2. NO single thread for e.g. all ITV comps, take a break comps, etc as I really can't follow them and the ones currently done that way I rarely enter and I don't suppose I am the only one.
This system (1) worked very well for the advents and most people seemed able to find and enter with this system
So the poll questions could be:
Do you use regulars section or main section
link posted in dailes/weeklies/monthlies stickies: yes or no
do we want a single thread for comps from the same company adding different comps on when they appear: yes or no
======================================================================
.

I'll have a think about it!
Initial thoughts are that I don't actually think you can just have one poll with all the options to choose from as they're too different (and there may be even further options yet), it maybe needs a few seperate polls that can be looked at together when the results are known or even a few rounds of polls to narrow the options down?
The hardest thing is about defining what's what is making sure there's enough definition between the different things to be able to tell them apart, but then making sure there's not too many options so as to not cause any confusion about what's what, so it's about finding something which would encompass every type of comp into one section or another.0 -
Questions for polls.
1. Do you use the regulars
2. How do you search for comps .. eg .. by end date, as they are posted etc.
Thats all I can think of for now.
Do you want to move all regular comps off the main board and put in the regular forum?
Do you think we should post all comps on the main forum and link to a D/W/M sticky and close the Regular board?
Should we still have a mixture of the two but have a very clearly defined guideline as to what constitutes a regular?
Thanks for allowing us to have our tuppance worth

sure, but think we need to keep it simple
just a case of what we think should be the poll questions/the different options you want polled
then hopefully MSE Andrea can get the general feeling/ideas from us all
