( First time poster on this thread )
I wonder what promoters of competitions would think if they read the discussion on this thread.
Might they think ~
" Good I'm glad that lot on MSE are getting themselves really organised so that they can keep entering as many of our competitions as possible."
OR Might they perhaps think ~
" Crikey those MSE people are taking things a bit to the extreme. Our competitions are only meant to be a bit of fun and maybe a way of getting people to come and actually read our websites."0 -
Can I point out that the comps people are talking about ie Nuts/WOTV etc didn't used to BE dailies? So the reason they were suddenly moved was not to intentionally annoy people but because they BECAME regular comps and stopped being normal.
Maybe we should ask the company running these comps to sort our mess out - seeing as they caused it in the first place by changing their compsLiving with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -
here is a circle for u all to run round in!!!! UGH now will someone PLEASE lock this thread its getting us nowhere!!!!! *pm's BG*I can only please one person a day.... Today is not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look good either!!very greatful for almost everything i read on MSE (except for the nasties!)0 -
Another part of the problem is that some folk STILL do not even know that these comps are now in regulars - if you use the main board only and have it set to comps by end date you have no need to look at page 1 where this is all being discussed, so people are still merrily comping away oblivious to the fact that they are missing out on lots of comps. These people will not be commenting on this thread because they wont have seen it - and yet they are the ones it most effects!
I'd like to add the dailies thread is super easy to navigate - but I have that thread bookmarked so don't actually have to go into the regular forum to enter them - therefore I would not have noticed that it had been tidied and other comps moved there - I hope that makes sense lol2008 wins £4405 2009 wins £7194 2010 wins £9615

2) The problem and the way that IS massively affecting the way people comp is the regs board NOT those threads, comps are being moved off the normal comps forum and so people who used to enter them when they were on the main board aren't able to now unless they go through to the regs board or use those 3 threads but this has been said time and time again in this thread and yet still those who want everything moved cant seem to see the difference between the regs board and the regs stickies/threads and that difference is the important part of this discussion
I know the problem is people don't like things being moved and that there is a difference between the stickies and the board.
My suggestions were to fix some of the problems that caused the initial complaints from the regular compers if we're just going back to how it was rather than making large changes/improvements.
eg before if something was posted on regular but someone else thought more would see it on main they would repost it on main. So if you used regulars and main you would dupe. I don't see why people couldn't just PM a BG and get it moved to main? Then the people that only use main would see it and the people that use both won't dupe.
Also, people that only had time for regulars felt they were missing out on comps (much as people who only comp from main do now) because a lot of people were noticing something on main was a daily but not adding it to the sticky. To me it wouldn't take much to go oh, this is a daily everyone, I've added it to the thread and do just that? That would help out the regular compers, not affect the main compers for longer than it takes to find the sticky and post, and then all of the community would see the comp rather than one side or the other?0 -

I agree with pretty much all of that. :T
It's the same aswell for comps that have gone to Game Over but are still running, it's better to get the old thread reinstated than posting a new one, in case the old one is linked to in any of the stickies and then people dupe their entries because of the new one, if that makes sense?
I've tried to stop this from happening in the dailies by having the end date listed as the end date in the title on the thread (even if I know that the comp is ongoing, so hopefully that way, once anything that keeps on going is G.O'ed I'll be able to get the thread bought back and the end date changed quite easily. (I don't want to link to anything in G.O as it's not an active thread and people not using the list will miss it [probably new members that don't already have the link saved in their own bookmarks]).
Also in the interests of transparency, I've decided that from now on, if anyone PM's me with a link to add, I'm going to ask them to post it on the end of the thread too.
Edited to add: Right I've been through all of the dailies on the regular board, the only ones that aren't linked to are:
- Ones that are Game Over (one has 18/01 as the date, so I think the BG's will notice that one naturally on their next round of Game Overing, and the other is the old Sugarscape thread [from December] which I'll ask a BG to G.O.)
- The individual post for Trippin Nomad (this one is quite tricky as they are currently running around 15 comps, none of which have a proper end date as it's just when they've all been won, I've already got the direct link to Trippin Nomad on the daily thread, so hopefully no one will miss anything as you can access all the comps from the same page.)
- The Cross Pens competition here which I'm not sure should be in regulars if you can only use an email address once? *confused*
- And then the 2 I wasn't sure about the websites 'Play and Win' and 'Survey Friends'0 -

So what we've been proposing about all comps with end dates to be posted on the main board with the relevant ones linked to the reg sticky thread would solve everyone's issues by the sounds of it, sounds like it's just the description of regs that needs changing and the comping guide edited a little so posters would be aware then everyone would get what they wanted surely? Or have I over simplified it and missed an issue?
EDIT:
I just thought of this and thought I'd add it here rather than yet another post but right now with the posts being moved over to regs as well as being listed in the stickies both copies of the comp are on the regs board, if it was adapted as I've said above, then there would be one for those only doing the main board and the regs would have their copy in the stickies, surely this would also help with people duping across both boards as they would have thanked/clicked the entered button on the post on the main board already ..... not sure I explained that right but I really hope you get what I meanJust become FTBs & Aiming to be mortgage free by 2034

not got to time to read every post properly until later but
one thing that stands out is some people want the regs board in some form, even some BGs (but with a clear definition of what is a regular comp)
and some people just want a main board
with a few wanting a main board but maybe the stickies on the regs board
whatever is decide then is not going to please everyone so the discussion might be better turned to compromising on what should be classed as a reg comp if the board is to stay,
a lot of people are asking why can't thigs go back to as they were with the comps on the main board as they don't use the regs board
well they may not have been aware that many comps were posted to the regs board anyway, and probably missed them, so the outcome of this is that more compers will be aware there is a regs board and more comps will be enteredI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Yes, pretty much (to me at least).
So long as the regular compers are considered a little more by the people that don't do regular comps, which is all I've been trying to say really!0 -

I have to be honest here, I never realised that people only did the reg threads, it kinda makes sense though thinking about it if you dont have much time to compJust become FTBs & Aiming to be mortgage free by 2034
