I just can't see this - there are 117 comps in BHG's daily index, of which less than 10 require a post each day and would cause a thread to be bumped (and not a new thread). In addition there are about 5 brand new daily comps each day which would need a new thread. There would be almost no effect on the main board. You also said that provided the links in the stickies were maintained it didn't matter where the comps were posted, as you just click on the link to get there - so it would be OK for them to be on the main board?
yes they could be on main but the likes of the sugar comp which is updated everyday would be bumped everyday.
saying if they have an end date they need to go on main doesnt work, as thats what has been the trouble to start with. regulars with an end date posted on main...then someone else [posts it in regulars because its an onlging comp (liek the pohones4u compe last year that was called phones4u weekly comp by phones for you), then they ended up being posted in both the regular thread and on main as a brand new thread each week which caused confusion.
if all end date comps are to go on main then sugar, glamour, etc need to be posted every day as a new thread. thats going to add a lot of threads to main by the time you go through all 150 threads and only leave those that are repeat entry for extra entries into one final prize draw only. all those that have a new prize every day and an end date of that day every day, plus all the same in weeklies WILL add a lot of posts to main, and will cause the posters of those threads more work than adding new link and answer everyday.
at this point im seriously inclinced to say andrea just please move everything out of regs onto main for a trial period and watch how long it takes for people to complain about the first few pages on mian being inundated with stickies and bumped posts and there being a number more pages to go through.
ongoing comps can have an end date of end of year and be updated every year if they are still valid....then absolutely every comp has an end date...which is what happens with some at the minute anyway.0 -

thats whats caused all the confusion...whya re some posted and left on main while others are posted in regulars and always have been?0 -
For a newbie like me, can someone confirm what constitutes a regular competition? For example the Read Deal and This Morning, etc style comps seem to be regulars (i.e. they're on each day) but they're on the main board (or the Real Deal one is at least).Moving onto a better place...Ciao :wave:0

Any definition will be based on whoever shouts loudest and the BG who takes opinions to MSE towers.
This thread is in effect pointless.

Actually I think I was wrong:o
Spurred on by this discussion and the thought that I might be missing out on more comps than previously I have spent the past day looking again at the regulars board....... the stickies are fantastic! I entered all the weeklies for the first time in years yesterday with very little trouble and intend to plough through the monthy ones now too.I tried in the past but found it confusing... either I got less stupid or the system has been refined since then:D
Quick question (probably stupid, sorry)...... do the stickies include EVERY current weekly/monthly/daily that is in the pages of the regulars board? If that is the case, I can't see what difference it makes where the orig posts get put, but hey, that might be me making another snap judgement;)
Thanks so much to those who compile the stickies, the board guides and of course those who post the comps/answers. Without you all, most of us wouldn't even BE comping!:A
firstly can i say THANK YOU for taking a few minutes to go and look so your argument against the reg board use could be informed by having at least looked at it rather than simply i dont use it so get rid of it.
secondly can i say THANK YOU for being prepared to admit that having looked at the stickies maybe they could be a useful aid
they include every competition that someone notifies the maintainer is a regular comp and needs to be included. so if i post a daily entry comp ill let bhg know by posting the link to my thread at the end of the daily sticky and she will add it to the op in the dailies sticky. likewise any comps i find on main and realise are dailies i add a link at the end of thread. sadly i often find them the day before they end as i comp by end date so have missed them all despite many people having bumped with new answers as required....the excuses given for not adding are usually i dont use the stickies so didnt see the point
or its only on for a few days so didnt see the point(yes people have saiud both those things to me in the past) or simply i didnt think = why i get so frustrated with them not being added.0 -

This Morning is sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly, and Real Deal (at the moment) is every week day. With both of them, they have new questions each time there is a new competition, and there is always a different prize (with Real Deal, it is cash, but different amounts)
Ive never thought of them as regulars, because everytime i post one, i have to find the answer, prize and the new link for everyone, rather than people being able to go to the same place everyday. I have no idea if this is what is defined as a regular competition, but ive been posting these for years now, and they have never been moved, or anyone ask me to post them in a different place.
Edit - also, although the majority of people know i post the ITV comps, if i did post on the reg board instead you can guarantee that someone else will come along and post it on the main board, i was 5 minutes late once with the Real Deal because the baby had fallen over, and someone nipped in and posted without checking!0 -
re: post 292 sorry pcl but you've missed the point. The Glamour etcx wouldn't need to be posted every day as the sticky on the dailies threrad would take you to the post if you used the board that way or you could see the post on the main board if that is the only way you comp or by end date similarly.
The confusion appears to always come down to the stickies being referred to as the regs board rather than a sticky in the regs board therefore posting on the main board with a link on the stickies solves both lots of problemsIf at first you don't succeed try, try, try again.

A word of warning.
It has been mentioned a few times that thread end dates can be guessed/estimated and changed when necessary. I.E an ongoing comp can have a ficticious end inserted and then changed when that date is reached.
There is actually a problem with the forum such that, on a number of occasions, when the the End Date is amended on the OP, the new date does not update on the thread header. I have seen this mentioned by other people and also found out myself when BTAA extended some of their competitions. This doesn't happen every time a date is changed but seems to happen randomly.
As an example, look at the old Radio Caroline thread HERE
At some point Rock Chick Bird has amended the End Date on the OP from 30/09 to 31/10 but the thread header is still showing 30/09.
I believe that Dalkirst investigated this problem some time ago but no solution was found.0 -

I wouldn't class them as regular either, I think it's because to keep it simple I'm classing things as how often you can enter them, as well as how long they're open, if that makes sense?
If Real Deal was on everyday and only open for that day I'd class it as a daily, or if you had to enter each 3/5/however many entries as one each day instead of being able to do them all at one, I'd class it as a daily then too.
But because it's open for a few days and you can do all the entries at once I just class them as individual competitions.
To try and explain further I've thought of another example, you know the Nisa Today competitions? They started being something like one entry a day for upto 30 entries I think, which to get the maximum entries, I would have classed as a daily as you couldn't just come across it the day before the end date and enter the maximum amount of times, but once they changed to 100 entries over the duration I would have classed it as a normal competition, because you could do those 100 entries at any point over the duration, so you could just get to it on a day near to the end and get maximum entries.
I hope that makes sense? I've tried to explain it as best as I could0 -

OK, so we get you dont like the compromise that others like the idea of ON BOTH SIDES of this issue but to say threads would need posting each day isn't true for all of them, the Sugar one you mention, all of those can be entered on the last day, those actually stay open for a time after the month in which you enter so those who enter by end date would still be able to enter all of them on the last day or whenever they got to them and the same goes for the company thread as well, yes the glamour one may need posting each day but thats 1 thread at issue where right now we have hundreds, surely you can see this is a compromise that would mean each side gain something if not everything they want/need?Just become FTBs & Aiming to be mortgage free by 2034
