so the tomatoes that I killed have just flown across the garden, ably assisted by the piddly greenhouse they were in. I give up. Plants don't just come to see me when they want to die, they come here to commit suicide too.

:( Don't get disheartened. We've all had our losses, but it's a learning curve. What you've gained is experience. Now you know why a blowaway greenhouse is called just that. :p You can't blame yourself for the weather.

Pop out and pick the toms up. Stick them back in their pots and put them in the most sheltered spot you can find, even if that's indoors. All may not be lost - tomatoes can be quite tough. ;)

Edit: You are allowed to curse and swear and grumble. I do that a lot, especially when Mr Fox pops round to check that my parsnip taproots are growing.
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Had my second strawberry tonight :j.
Wind has snapped a couple of stems off the spuds that are growing in old compost bags along the wall of the house.

MBE I like the table/bench you just need a nice brick BBQ now and you are sorted or the summer.
I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

I did think about that earlier today, but don't have space for a permanent structure - it wouldn't get used often enough.

MrBE, fair bit of rain the past couple of days - has it been the same for you?

More rain predicted for thursday & possibly friday.

I'm hoping for a bit more sunshine after that, to make my miniscule current plants get a spurt on!
It's getting harder & harder to keep the government in the manner to which they have become accustomed.

Yeah, decent drop yesterday. I wish the wind would die down a bit, but at least it's not too bad here compared to some places.

I love reading this thread but it's so easy to get behind and then I find myself just looking at all the photos! Everyone is doing so well, especially MBE - your garden has come along so much since last year's thread! :T

I've seen a lot of comments about beans and am totally jealous of the progress of some of MBE's beans climbing already, but I will try to be patient! Mine started off well (in pots) and grew quickly but since planting out they seem to be concentrating on spreading outwards rather than upwards! The dwarf ones are looking good though.

My cucumber plants seem to be quite disastrous so far (a common theme this year, I think) and the wind has totally killed one of them - they're not even outside yet, just in the plastic greenhouse. Disaster almost struck on Sunday when a big gust of wind almost blew over the greenhouse despite having bricks on the bottom shelf - nearly lost all my tomatoes and the chilli seedlings that have finally decided to make an appearance!!

I'm getting impatient with my courgette and patty pan plants as they've hardly grown at all since I planted them out, but I need to remember last year when they suddenly took over the entire garden!

Yellow mange tout are climbing fast though and will hopefully not be too long before we see some flowers - I think they are going to have purple flowers which will be a lovely contrast to the white flowers on the peas :)
