Just had a call from one of their managers. Apparently the date for this change has now been pushed back to 1st March (you may want to confirm that yourselves).

She told me they have checked this all with Ofcom and they are within their rights to perform the change. I explained it was a material detriment (either an 83% reduction in service or a 75% increase in cost to keep same service) and so under Ofcom 9.3 I should be able to terminate without penalty. She repeated that they have checked with Ofcom and they can make these changes.

Next step for me is either a cancellation letter, demand a PAC and then cancel my direct debit before they can take the penalty fee (risky?) or follow T-mobiles complaint procedure (support.t-mobile.co.uk/resources/sites/TMOBILE/content/live/DOCUMENTS/0/DO210/en_GB/Complaints Code of Practice.pdf) and email T-Mobile and wait for it to go to CISAS after 8 weeks... man T-Mobile sucks.

    Anyone have any other suggestions?

    News just released!!!!!

    T-Mobile Statement:

“On Monday 10 January 2011 we announced that, in line with the rest of the industry, T-Mobile would be reducing its Fair Use Policy for data usage to 500MB a month for all mobile phone customers. Following a further review of our policy, these changes will now be introduced from 1 February, to new and upgrading customers only - not existing customers.

There will be no change to the data packages for existing customers for the duration of their contract and we apologise for any confusion caused. The revision to the Fair Use Policy is designed to ensure an improved quality of service for all mobile internet users."

    Lysa Hardy, VP, T-Mobile UK

RESULT... gutted I posted my letter this morning though... DOH!

Jamespir, I appreciate an alternative viewpoint as much as anyone, but just randomly stating things as fact isn't particularly helpful to the debate. Especially when you aren't backing any of it up with sources and you've made some fairly unlikely claims. Now you seem to just be name calling, which is also unhelpful.

Can you either provide some sources for your claims or maybe make another thread for them? i don't think they're particularly appreciated in here.

    Thanks.

so you sign in as a new user just to have a pop at me if youve read the whole thread you would see that lucky has been claling me some nasty names thankfully they have been removed by mse now

    T-Mobile Backed Down

    Information on new data policy:

From 1 February 2011 new and upgrading customers will be given a monthly 500MB data allowance. There will be no charge for those customers exceeding that limit, and those who do will still be able to access important services such as email and web browsing, however file downloading and streaming services will be restricted. Customers will then have the option to increase their monthly Fair Use Policy to 1GB a month by purchasing a Mobile Broadband Booster. This will ensure an improved quality of service for all of our mobile internet users.

Seems like they have seen sense I do hope they tell their CS people.

Difficult to argue that paying the same for a lesser service or more for the current service was not in some way detrimental.
  • Common sense has prevailed... or been forced upon them at least.

Common sense has prevailed! Now they just need to sort out their internal communications...

I think they albeit belatedly realised this was their only option to avoid customers canceling using Ofcom 9.3.
