Just as I've noticed to another post. The FUP is not measured on your billing date, but from the 1st of every calendar month.

in exactly what way can't you tether?

you can download an app that turns your phone into a wireless access point, then simply access with wireless dongle/pci card in pc.

    OR

    Samsung Kies click on tether.

Whats physically stopped it from working?

From tmobiles end data is data, they shouldn't be able to stop your phone using its features!

I can tether in that my phone gives me an internet connection on my laptop but any web page I try and go to brings up a TMobile page with my phone number on it and a message asking me which mobile broadband package I would like to buy.
I agree data is data, just a shame Tmobile dont seem to!

A friend of mine posted this on another site a short while ago.

Well the 500mb limit has come in to force for new and upgrading customers who change their price plan. This is what T-Moblie site says about the new FUP.

Fair use policy – Internet on your phone

We're the only operator to offer you a fixed price for surfing and emailing on your phone with no limits and no extra charges.

Use 3G for getting online on your phone when you're out and about
Never pay more than your monthly fixed price
You can always surf and email with no limits
    Is there an allowance?
You can surf and email as much as you want.

There is a 500MB allowance for streaming videos, uploading and downloading files. If you hit this limit during the month, you won't be able to do this stuff again until the next month.

For the best internet on your phone at home, connect to your home WiFi, so you won't even touch your 500MB allowance.

    What about using apps?
Some apps use a normal internet connection, so they will work just like your surfing and email allowance. But there are some apps that use streaming connections, so these will fall into the 500MB allowance.

Having looked at the My account section on T-Mobile, both W&W+ and We Max have been removed from the options. They only do a 1GB mobile BB option now for new customers.

What is the Fair Use Policy for Mobile Broadband and Internet on your phone?

    Devices this applies to

    Fair use policy
For customers joining from February 2011, all new price plans are subject to the following Fair Use Policies:

    Mobile Broadband pay monthly plan
    1 GB per calendar month
    Mobile Broadband Pay Per Day
    250 MB per 1 day
250 MB per day for the any 7 days option
    500 MB per week
    1 GB per 30 days
    Internet on your phone
    500 MB per calendar month
There is also a 1GB upgrade option which enables you to use your phone as a modem for accessing the internet.

Customers who joined before February 2011 may have different Fair Use Policies, please refer to your original price plan terms & conditions.

    But then so did T-mobile.

Three may say they have "all you can eat data" but there is still a FUP in the small print. Taken from there own T&C's

6.5 You must not use Three Services, the SIM or Three phone number or allow anyone else to use Three Services, the SIM or Three phone number for illegal or improper uses. For example:

    (d) to download, send or upload content of an excessive size, quantity or frequency. We will contact you if your use is excessive;

This is horridly bad service. I got caught up in the Vodafone FUP fiasco and it took ages to actually shake them off without having to pay any penalty. I know a lot of Vodafone FUP customers had the same problem.

With Vodafone I found that using their call centre monkeys was just frustrating as I go differing tales from staff and managers of the centres. You really do need to go to the top with this kind of dispute. The call centres can really just tell you your balance and take a payment and fix minor phone issues. What I found worked was writing to customer relations and obtaining a number for the Directors Office. Also an email address. I pestered them for ages. Same tactic might work for T-Mobile?

I believe T-Mobile's offshore centres are pretty diabolical too??

With regard to this being to your contractural detriment with Vodafone the detriment was that we had a 500MB FUP. There were no charges if you went over the 500MB limit even by a considerable margin. I regularly used nearly 3GB and more (sometimes 8 or 9GB) and never got a slap for it or any charges.

Vodafone decided to scrap the 500MB FUP and impose a "Hard Cap" of 500MB or 1GB (can't remember the amount). This was included in your price plan. If you exceeded this limit each block of 500MB or 1GB (can't remember the amount) was £5. If these additional charges exceeded 10% of the value of your monthly bill you were able to cancel. To do this you had to write in and send in proof that the data usage in the previous 3 months prior to the introduction of the charges would generate charges in excess of 10% of your monthly total.

I do not think you can compare T-Mobile's changes so readily to Vodafone's as I don't think T-Mobile are actually going to charge extra for exceeding the 500MB limit.

All existing customers still have the old FUP, so it can't be compared to Vodafone at all and is more akin to o2's change in policy. The only difference is T-Mobile tried to pull a fast one and backed down.

Or least I hope so, as I'm on target for about 1.5GB this month based on todays usage and was going easy on it too. Remember the FUP for data is measured from the 1st of every month regardless of billing date. This makes it harder to track on my t-mobile.

http://accelerator.t-mobile.co.uk is very useful for turning off the image compression for smartphone users.
