Anyone else noticed that in the last week they have stopped you from tethering without paying an additional charge?
The last 12 months on this phone and 18 months before on my previous phone I used to be able to tether, now it asks me to pay £15 per month extra.
Used to be included in the contract, I'd post the link to that if I was allowed (new members are not).
Nice of them to let us know before they implemented this one, I wouldn't have taken out the contract originally if I'd known they can just change it as and when they want as tethering was a big plus feature of it!
Spoke to them today and they said it will affect everyone who tries to do tethering by next month. No way I'm suddenly paying an extra £15 for it!0 -
neas - As far as I knew the iPhone contracts always came with a FUP of 500MB.
Not tried tethering recently, I wonder how they are detecting it. My Android phone shows up as Safari for MacOSX according to browser headers and had no problem on my phone.0 -

I used my daughters Tmobile sim only (unlimited internet) on a notebook, with a Tmobile dongle, last night for over 1 hour, just to see if this would work
worked a treat, have checked the online account apart from a few different "web" details there's nothing else0 -

Most likely it will work without any issue, and if you do it occasionally and light use you will be fine, however all networks specifically ban tethering as PC's will use more data than a mobile.
They can tell, and they will charge you if they find out, but unless you hammer it they are unlikely to even look into it.0 -
Whatever happened to barry from tmobile posting "you can tether to your hears content"? (...heart's*)

Question to those who demanded PACs from tmob - have they chased you up with a final bill including charges? I haven't pursued it for a couple of reasons, I'm ok with the download speed I get when tethering, which saves some bandwidth on my home broadband, and my current deal is decent. Has it been confirmed that they will disallow tethering without paying an additional charge?
I've been tethering so far (right now in fact) on WnW+ without any problems.0 -

Thanks for that, was wondering how it would work
bearing in mind my daughter hardly uses the internet allowance on her blackberry tmobile sim, 99% states blackberry web, last night for a change it stated "web"
thanks0 -

Something to bear in minds is phones tend to be direct to web versions of pages, that are a lot smaller and designed for smaller screens. A PC will go to the "full fat" version of a web page.
You can quite easily use a lot of bandwidth looking at something like Facebook on a PC compared to the same page on a phone.
As I said they can tell but unless you go way over your allowance they probably won't care.0 -
I'm also on Web and Walk plus, tethering via an Iphone 3gs, she did say that it would affect everybody by the 16th Feb, not sure how true this is though. I cant tether any more without paying and I have not been hitting it hard in the past, used less than 2gb tethering in the last 12 months.0

in exactly what way can't you tether?
you can download an app that turns your phone into a wireless access point, then simply access with wireless dongle/pci card in pc.
OR
Samsung Kies click on tether.
Whats physically stopped it from working?
From tmobiles end data is data, they shouldn't be able to stop your phone using its features!
Onto my reason for posting tonight..
just gone over my 500mb data, half way through the month and my speed is dog slow tonight, on the phone itself and tethering, i'm on web n walk plus on my bill. Wonder if they are slowing down people who go over 500mb as part of their secret FUP change.0 -
I don't think they are. I'm at 1.52GB and still getting about 1.9Mbps
When I went one month over 3GB (used about 5.5GB) my speedtest.net results were not any slower. Youtube stopped working though 4pm-Midnight.0
