I think it is questionable legally. Oh well, if they bill it, I'll get my card company to do a 'charge back!!'. If it hasn't expired of course!

I've actually downloaded 2.3 gigs this evening and the checked my fair usage status which is still showing as green. They don't appear to have my card details.

    gonna spank the downloads tonight
    let's see what happens next
  • A couple of things I forgot, the manager at Redten assured me that the credit card details are only transferred as they've moved the whole database, he said they would definately never be used as that would be illegal. His words, not mine.

Also the guy at NJP said that when they used to offer unlimited services to their customers they had some customers using 900GB a month! Obviously that was costing a fair bit so they started to charge which would cost those customers £898 a month! If Redten are having to pay that then anyone using a fair bit (I guess most of us) are going to cost Redten an incredible amount. The manager reckons that they aren't getting charged for the extra but I don't think he was sure, I guess we find out in a few months as if they are then they won't last long!

If you are using outlook to download your mail, check your email account settings. Redten used the following POP3 setting "pop.redten.net". Now that NJP are providing the service, the POP3 setting needs to be "mail.redten.net".

Has anybody retrieved any backlog of mail? I had 5 mail addresses on my redten account and nothing has come through since 13 march. looks like it has all disappeared into a big black hole in the internet. Pity redten didn't follow.

    Hello everyone,

I have now been connected to the internet for 36 hours---getting speeds of 6meg plus on my 8meg enabled line. This is the same as before with BT. I have been connected via netgear with IP address dynamically assigned by router.
I have at last been able to access the account page in NJP services with the NEW account number they provided in the letter from them.
This shows that I am on home lite package 2 gb at a cost of £9.85 permonth with a fixed IP assigned

I have removed IP address for obvious reasons.
I have emailed them for an explanation and have stated my package of unlimited at 8meg / 24meg at 19.99 DD to Clode is what should have been transferred.

I have one reaining problem and that is processing my emails from outlook. I can receive emails which are to my migrated email address of fsnet via pop.wanadoo.co.uk but I can no longer receive emails from smtp.redten.net
This shows that the emails I send cannot be relayed and I suspect that the configurations required have not been transferred to NJP or that NJP cannot handle this. I have emailed NJP services for advice.

I will let everyone know the outcomes of these.

keep up the good work --such a useful site and helpful people--:A
  • redten working with NJP?

sorry that should read I can no longer send emails via smtp.redten.net --this bunch have turned my brain to mush --
  • redten working with NJP?

Have now also accessed my work etc through VPN channels.
Thank goodness for hotmail so I can contact the outside world.
I have just about given up on redten despite the original helpful Tariq.

The contract with Clode is so tight I am a first class idiot for ever going down that road --however live and learn for another day--that will not stop me going elsewhere if the service does not at least match redtens, which for all their faults was a regular and reliable service, probably because it was supplied by BT.

My download speeds when first connected yesterday morning were 6meg+.
Since yesterday evening I have only achieved less than 1.5meg so it looks like NJP have already restricted my connection speed!!
I have only used 0.84meg bandwidth so far and the fair usage indicator is still green.
Before this fiasco, I regularly achieved a connection speed exceeding 7 meg. I had no complaints about the service from BT Wholesale.
As if I wasn't already p****d off enough with redten!

Anybody else getting very low connection speeds?

Im back online too - connecting between 3-5 meg (no difference to before).

Im also having probs with emails - says i have 16 in the queue but will only download the first 2, gets to the third then times out. I have changed the server settings but still no joy. Another ticket going in today I think!

I, too, jumped ship early last week and am now happy with Be.

As far as I'm concerned, it was RedTen who are in breach of contract - the service ceased, and I received no official notification. I didn't get a letter (and I haven't moved house) and I didn't get an email. The announcement on their redten.net page that the migration is to 24Mb is obviously incorrect, too.

Looking at the posts earlier in this thread, it seems that RedTen may have sent an email to the redten.net addresses, but that's not one I ever used - I would expect all comms to go to the address I gave them, no one they decided to set up (and all previous customer service emails have come to my own email address, not the redten one). And besides, the redten webmail is down, so I couldn't access that email account even if I could remember the login details from a year and a half ago!

I'll be contacting RedTen and giving them seven days to refund the unused portion of my contract (I paid upfront). If they decline then they'll be receiving an invitation to meet me in the local small claims court.
