  • Dunno, I'm at work. I checked this morning and there was no change but I assume I need to change my router settings first ...of course I've not had any instructions on how to do that since they never sent a letter!!!
Worth phoning up Redten, they take about 10 minutes to answer. If you didn't get a letter then it's likely you haven't been transferred over. If you want to speed things up like me then phone BT and get the MAC yourself. Redten won't like it but I don't like being without internet!!

Does anyone actually know who we deal with now when we have problems NJP are saying Redten deal with it yet the letter that was sent says to contact NJP.

Now I'm not very technically minded, and accessed my Redten broadband with a Thomson speedtouch modem...so all this stuff about VPI/VCI and Encapsulation is foreign to me. I changed my username and password to those given by NJP, but cannot connect.

How does your pc connect to the modem? is it via USB?

You should be able to connect to the interface of the modem to change the settings, check your instructions on how to do this, presumably, if it is USB, you will do this via software that you install to run the modem.

once you access the modem's interface there would usually be a number of settings that you can change you are looking for Username and password (not the password you type to access the modem, but the password once you have accessed it), and also Encription Type (could be named something else, but the options for this are usually VC or LLC.

When you have made changed make sure that you save the changes and also restart your computer, it may also be worth unplugging the modem from the computer (power) and reconnecting it again.

I got a Mac last week just in case - will it still be valid? I've read a few people here saying that they were cancelled.

hummm yet no connection for me , contacted NJP and they told me ALL will be ON at the end of the day ...well... I do no trust them...

Looking on the NJP customer site on options I clicked on CANCEL ACCOUNT and this come up:

You are currently in contract. This is due to expire on 11 April 2008. After that date you will be able to gain access to this option.

If you believe that this information is incorrect please call customer services
on 0871 424 0185 or use the Contact Us feature to speak with one of our service staff.

I contacted NJP as well they say they are only providing the backbone and nothing else yet the letter says if you have any problems then contact them.

Not sure what the settings were before but Redten are still collecting emails for your @redten.net email accounts. Both the MX records are still live so the mail is going somewhere and being kept...... Not sure if the backup was an NTL based one before all the fun started?

    mxbackup.business.ntl.com.10 81.103.221.10 [GB]

Just done a lookup on the IP for Redten....

Not sure, 5 minute phone call to BT to check.

Have you phoned redten to see if you've been transferred? That's the first thing you need to do.
  • First and foremost I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to these forums over the past week. They have been a massive source of information and advice and to be honest I haven't looked anywhere else for updates as to what's going on.

I signed up with Redten Nov. 06 and apart from initial problems with delivery of PC everything has gone well.

I have noticed more recently that I was having to "refresh" my router settings more and more often but I don't know why.

I, like many others, have waited for today with baited breath and having input my new login into my router set up I still could not get online. Rang NJP and the guy there said my account was active since this morning but if I had any technical questions I should ring Redten. Rang local rate number, waited for five mins then got cut off, rang 60ppm number, waited 10 mins and gave up.

I have tried everything suggested on these forums and still nothing. So this is the plan!

I have a computer repairman coming round tonight to try and sort it out, I will pay and then forward an invoice to Redten.

I will continue to pay Clode £24.96 (?) a month but if I receive any further bills from Redten or NJP I will cancel my DD to clode. If NJP are putting us on a package for £9.99 2gb per month what are we all paying £20 a month to clode for?

If they want their PC back they can come and collect it with pleasure, I will go down to PC world, buy another for £300 and sign up to a new ISP for £16 a month which will probably include my phonecalls.

Have had just about enough of this and whoever said it was worse than giving up smoking you've hit the nail on the head, I feel like I've lost an arm this week.

    Thanks again.
