I agree BT have something to answer to but it was down to Redten to inform us as our contract is with them.
What I am struggling to work out is why we hall had the message from BT saying Redten had either ceased trading or failed to pay their invoices.
What exactly was they trying to achieve? Was they trying to get people to leave Redten by mis-information?
Whatever the reason is it does not make sense to me as nearly all of us will currently be paying BT for our line rental, and getting us to leave would put us in breach of contract thus alienating us against BT, also of those who may have migrated how many would have moved to a bundle where you get everything from one supplier ie. Broadband/line rental/calls? BT would have lost line rental customers too, it seems to me as they would have been willing to shoot themselves in the foot/ cut their nose of to spite their face just to get at Redten, that to me from a business point of view makes no sense.
Surely if Redten are still above board they will take some sort of action against BT???
I wouldn't blame BT at all they were providing a service to Redten so its Redtens responsibilty to inform their customers what is happening.
All this grief could have been avoided if Redten had sent out a letter at the start of march say we are swapping over to another provider which means your connection will be down for a week starting on the 11th of march.
But they didn't and caused aload of unrest because people were not getting the answers that they wanted myself included.0 -
RedTen did post a Bulletin on their site, but it just said that they're upgrading the lines and the normal service should resume by the end of the week, and that you MAY lose connection for a day or so.
All this talk of the migration, has everyone forgot that the reason RedTen say all this is happening is because they are upgrading people to 24mb. has anyone seen any evidence of this?
Although I'm back up and running, it is certainly no quicker than it was before the migration.0 -
update for you, had a reply from NJP regarding capped access:
Hi Lee,
You will need to speak with RedTens customer services team about your service with them; we are simply supplying the backbone provision for their customers to be able to connect and it is RedTen who have configured and setup the profile for their customers.
I do not believe you have an unlimited profile through our network but as suggested, you will need to speak with RedTen about your service provision.
Kind Regards,
Paul

Be interesting to see how this pans out. Are Redten just saying unlimited so we dont get them in breach of contract?0 -
I don't think BT can really be blamed for anything, other than if someone used the MAC and it put them in breach of contract then that would be BT's fault. They said that Redten hadn't paid their bill which as far as I know is true.
24Mbps won't happen for a couple of years I don't think anyway, they've got to upgrade the server first which I don't think has happened yet.0 -
BT are a disgrace (as much as Redten) - they had a facility to tell us, the customer, that this was going to happen, and they knew what impact the sudden switch off would have on us. If they knew a company was going uder for example, they should have warned us weeks before they switched us off. Appalling behaviour.
I believe Redten's monthly bill to BT would have risen in past months due to the use of BBC iPlayer. Redten would have a business plan that assumed a certain level of pay out to BT per month, and this would have risen (and was uncontrolled). So yes I do expect the NJP deal to have a monthly limit. Wait & see I guess!
I for one have used the redten e-mail address for the last 15 months, I never recieved any notification from Redten that I had to back my e-mail up. Does anyone know when the e-mail server is coming back up? In the I last week, I have not recieved ebay invoices, air ticket & other purchase confirmations - will they ever arrive? What has the BT or the new deal got to do with the e-mail server?0 -
A quick calculation shows that if we use our line to the full limit then assuming Redten are having to pay the £1/GB on our behalf then each month each customer would cost Redten an extra £2500. This goes upto £7500 once the lines are upgraded!!!
Don't think our £19.99 covers that? Worse still new customers are only paying £12.99 aren't they?0 -
Well, its all a nightmare.
MY ACCOUNT at NJP says my line is activated.
Now I'm not very technically minded, and accessed my Redten broadband with a Thomson speedtouch modem...so all this stuff about VPI/VCI and Encapsulation is foreign to me. I changed my username and password to those given by NJP, but cannot connect.
I contacted NJP with a ticket this morning - they said if I have done everything as is stated in their letter to me, then I must contact Redten.
Can't get an answer from Redten.
I even tried NJP tech support at 60p per minute - but it rings and rings and hangs up. I wanted to ask them if I HAVE to use the router Redten sent - the computer I use doesn't have an ethernet connection (whatever ethernet is) and yes, the "free computer" Redten sent me 15 months ago is still packed in its box.
So I then phoned NJP customer services...who are not taking calls at the moment because of the high volume....arrrghhhhh0 -

Dunno, I'm at work. I checked this morning and there was no change but I assume I need to change my router settings first ...of course I've not had any instructions on how to do that since they never sent a letter!!!0 -
Hi - I'm an equally disgruntled Redten member - new to this forum.
I've got my new logon details, but no sign of any broadband connection as yet.
But just wanted to let everone know that the Redten website - www.redteninternet.com - still has lots of useful information showing. Basically the unlimited downloads and their Fair-use policy, their peak times and how they view peer-to-peer can all still be seen on their FAQ page. I've done a number of screen dumps, so I've got clear proof of what I signed up to - for as and when we come to blows with Redten/Clode/NJP etc0 -
