So, it seems that despite assurances to the contrary people who "stuck with" NJP/Breathe/Clode/Fatcat/whoever are still encountering major service problems..

Hate to say i told you so........ but I appreciate this isnt constructive - check out the deadten website for contact details.
  • I tried calling Nick Davis (Clode) on Friday and again this morning, using the number (0844 8262923) given out by Fatcat. Every time i have been greeted by, "No-one is available to take your call, please leave a message", which I did. No call backs as yet.

Just wondered if anyone had contacted the BBC Watchdog programme. If they received multiple complaints maybe they could/would help us?
  • Hi bb - a lot of us contacted Watchdog when this all went to the wall the first time.. actually, be careful about mentioning the WD name around here - posts disappear when mentioned...!!

The view was that WD wouldnt take on Redten et al as there is no real public knowledge of them and it wouldnt make a good TV show. Sad but true.
  • I've also lost email which is now the final straw, I'm outta here.

I'm going to trawl through the previous threads for some tips but if some kind soul would like to share the best way to drop these cowboys I'm all ears!

everyone and anyone having problems should look at :

    http://www.deadten.co.uk/

here it lists the various issues/contact points/actions needed in order to get out. IIRC most of us on here had to actually issue court proceedings before we were free - things MIGHT have changed now as I think I remember reading that Redten/Clode/Fatcat had changed their t&c and made them a bit tighter - still, email being down is a bit breach of contract if you ask me.

    Good luck one and all.
  • well email still down and i never even received anything about fatcat. Need to get out of it. I migrated to bethere months ago when the original redten went dead.

Absolute bankers, suprised Gordon Brown hasnt stepped in to nationalise it!

Hi Gnipper, nice to see you are still around, I thought the thread was dead, but I see the merry go round has started up again, wonder how many other originals are still checking in?
Nothing changes with this bunch just the name of the ISP.

Advice to all readers still locked in, ask questions here, those of us who look in from time to time will help if possible, if you cannot wait for a reply, check through the threads, you will no doubt find it has already been discussed at length, and as gnipper says, check the Deadten site, that Essex set up, most of what you will need is there.

Check the deadten site, for procedure, but the only way to drop them without being charged for the remainder of your contract is for them to have breached the contract, which they most definitely did back in April. Since then they have changed the terms and conditions, which will make breach of contract far more difficult to prove, (they added a lot more get out of jail free cards), however if they are not providing the service contracted for, they are in breach, and you can take them through the small claims court.

You need to write the letters, record them, and show the court that you have given them a chance to restore the contract to what it should be, then file papers.

It is likely that if you file, they will settle as it will cost them more to fight than to settle, and if they lose it will open the flood gates.

I paid £80 to get out as I used a solicitor who was slower than the service I was getting from njp at the time which was 19kb/s, I still consider it money well spent though as I now have a stable connection, and good nights sleep, though I do regret not filing papers and getting out for free.

In am copying the content of my post 5629 regarding removing the tag from your line if you cannot get a MAC code, this info was given me by BT at the time, it may help.

If all else fails cancel your BT line and use mobile phone for a couple of weeks, after 14 days, BT can cancel the tags on the line, and you can re-apply for a line, you should get back your number, the downside to this is you have to sign a new 12 month agreement with BT for the line. The other alternative is to give Clode/Redten 10 days notice to release the line or you will get a new line run to the house and sue them for the costs of the new line, as if your contract with Clode is no longer in existence then they have no right to hold on to the line. Clode as signatory to the original agreement should still be jointly liable, perhaps one of the legal beagles could confirm this. I was seriously looking at this option just prior to my deal and Mac code. As I was going on holiday for a couple of weeks in the near future, I was going to combine the two events so that it did not cause me any problem. Information came from BT options by the way. Food for thought, anyway hope this helps.

    edit.gifGood luck anyway
