Are there any heavy bandwidth users ie. over 15Gb, still redten/fatcat customers? I wonder
  • Cancel the DD in writing and state why. You need to get clode to cancel your credit agreement. MAC codes only work for a month I think.

I have no intention of using adsl since I have a cable connection with Virgin but should I still try to get a mac code if I can cancel in case I want adsl in the future? Will I need that in say a years time?

I only got a BT line so I could use redten - could I now disconnect that line? Would it be best to have a MAC code before I did that?

I have had a look through this thread but I think my situation may be unique... also the thread is quite large.....

    Thanks!

    Hi Bearbum

The way I see it is that you will need to advise Clode that you have never been connected to either NJP or Fatcat and that your contract has been breached by Redten. As they are equally liable for that breach you wish to be released from your commitment to them, without penalty.
If you are already hooked up to cable with virgin, then you can cancel your BT line with impunity, as a tag will only stay on the line for 30 days I believe. If you ever want to return to ADSL then you will have to obtain a new line from BT which of course will cost and require you to take on a new 12 month contract with BT.
I looked into this when I was trying to escape from Redten, and BT said if I terminated the line the tag normally disappears after around 14 days or so.
Feel free to double check with BT though.
As far as canceling the direct debit, it would be safer to write to Clode and advise them that you are in dispute, as you are not receiving the service you are paying for, and as such you are withholding payment until the matter is resolved. (otherwise you may end up breaching the contract). You may actually have to take the matter to the small claims court, as others have successfully done. You may also have to make the payments if the matter did reach the courts and you lost. But on past showing that is unlikely. But just be aware.
    Good luck anyway

  • Hi Bearbum

Jaypee didn't mention the Deadten site. Lots of helpful info for writing your complaint etc. I joined a couple of months earlier than yourself and had to pay the remaining 31 months of contract at £12.99 less an allowance of £12 for alternative Broadband supply - 31x£0.99 and keep PC. Since you have been paying for service not supplied then Clode should be paying you around £20 or so to terminate contract.
I reckon you should ask Clode first -if no answer after 7 days or they ask for any money, use the moneyclaim service.

    Hello everyone,

Thanks for the advice and support re my recent claim against Clode Funding.
Result was an acknowledgement from Clode.
Then a letter dated 20/08 stating they had submitted a defence BUT to settle the matter amicably they offered to clear my account in full
(£500 plus) as full and final settlement. So I rang 22/08 and accepted their offer subject to them providing me with a letter confirming same and supply of a MAC.

On 23/08 I received a letter confirming that my Redten account was closed and any computer equipment as part of the contract is to be retained by me and no further payments will be claimed.

They have requested that I stop my legal action and have provided me with a MAC

Many thanks to the many posters who gave me the gumption to seek legal redress. I am happy with the outcome despite having had to spend £60 Court fees.

Once again thanks. Now, what ISP to go to next?

    Any idas?

    Steve

    Hi Steve

Pleased to hear you have escaped, just love success stories.

The favourite suppliers seem to be BE or O2 if you are lucky enough to have them supply your area, unfortunately I am not, and have settled for Tiscali, as I live out in the sticks, and LLU is still a couple of years away. I got an excellent deal with Tiscali Talk and unlimited Broadband, which includes unlimited broadband, free anytime calls and line rental all for £19.99 per month. 12 month contract. I think the current cost is mid £20 for the package, but I was paying £20 per month just for the anytime calls from BT, so effectively I am getting free broadband.

There was another company quoted within the last few pages of this thread, which I had never heard of but was supposedly excellent if you want to check back.

    Good Luck anyway

    Jack

I have had no broadband service from Redten or Fatcat or whatever they call themselves this week for almost three days now.

Having to pay for a dialup service to get online for now.

    Anyone else having problems?

  • Hi, I do know that a lot of us have gone through a lot of hassle with the Redten saga, but I would like to add something positive about Fatcat.

My desktop PC (from Redten Jan 06) has packed in so I contacted Fatcat by email on Friday last (22nd Aug) to tell them that I had a problem with it. It has been a bank holiday over the weekend but they got in touch with me earlier today and I was able to call them. The call was answered immediately and they discussed the problem with me to no avail unfortunately, however they are honouring the 3 year warranty with Redten and I am returning the pc to them for repair.

I am posting this as I think it may throw a different light on Fatcat as far as customer care is concerned. Like most of us, I have wasted time on the end of a phone trying to get throught to someone in Redten in the past, so I was very pleasantly surprised to get a human being answering my call almost immediately this morning!! In fact, I was surprised even to get a reply to my email!

    Cheers.
