Just got a letter from Clode to say that FatCat are no longer willing to supply my broadband. The service will cease on the 31st of August and I will owe Clode nothing despite having 19 payments to go! A MAC is included with the recommendation that I use it soon, believe me I will.
So thats the end of the Redten saga for me.
Who would I be best going to for broadband or broadband/phone? Any suggestions?
Cheers
Q
Well done!
Quite a few of us went with BE and O2 I've just requested my £40 cheque from "Topcashback" for signing up (accessed through this site)
BE are brilliant! you get text messages and emails in advance of changes, bills etc - recently made changes to freephone numbers for various help depts/ tech support - changes anounced in advance! speed is much faster and service brilliant - definitely worth the small amount extra monthly payment (less £40 cashback) Only a made a couple of calls made to BE which were answered by a person in a few seconds.0 -
Just had a phonecall from a friend of mine who on my advice went to Redten and got the desktop and laptop package. He has just had the same letter as I had. He is even better off though as he had only been with them for 8 months!

Be nice to think that they are doing the right thing at last, and closing the whole sad affair, I hope everyone comes out at least breaking even but better still winning, as compensation for the grief.
I am happily bumbling along with Tiscali, on their Broadband/Talk package, which I was fortunate to pick up for £19.99, and includes unlimited broadband, anytime free phone calls and line rental.
I am a happy little bunny.
Glad to see more happy bunnies joining the warren. :rotfl:

Well done to JP sounds like you got a good deal. From reading the posts sounds like you had a trying time with Redten. All the best for the future. 'Barry B'0

The ASA ruled that Redten had misled customers in advertising its packages as 'unlimited'
Redten rapped over broadband claims
ASA reprimands ISP for traffic shaping

Redten has been brought to book by the Advertising Standards Authority after making misleading claims of 'unlimited broadband' and 'unlimited internet downloads'.
The watchdog ruled that Redten had misled customers in advertising its packages as 'unlimited' because the ISP slowed broadband connections to dial-up speed once a 5GB or 15GB cap had been reached.
The ISP, which gives away a free PC when customers sign up for its broadband services, was also found wanting in a separate advert that offered a 'free upgrade to 24Mbps broadband'.
"Because we had not seen evidence to show that the download cap excluded only atypical users, or that customers were able to obtain an upgrade to 24Mbps free of charge, we concluded that the claims 'unlimited broadband', 'unlimited downloads' and 'free upgrade to 24Mbps broadband' were misleading," the ASA said in its ruling.
The ASA also reprimanded the ISP for its lack of response in dealing with the complaints, and an apparent "disregard for the Code".
The watchdog reminded Redten of its obligations under the Code and told it to respond promptly in future.
The ruling is the latest in a spate of problems to bedevil the ISP, including a week-long internet outage in March which left all customers without access.
Redten was recently taken over by Fatcat Communications after going into administration.

Q Who?, were you using more than 15Gb a month?
Been on holiday, in a tent in the rain.....
I honestly don't know how much I was downloading. I only started keeping an eye on things when FatCat came along. According to them I was using more than 15gb. I'm not a heavy downloader though.
Anyone else had the same letter yet?
Decided to go with Tiscali phone/broadband package, it should all be in place before the end of the month and the end of Redten/Fatcat.

Hi, I also received the same letter last week.
I used about 36Gb last month, and 27Gb so far this month!! Looks to me like they are getting rid of the heavy users, coz we're costing them too much!
Just found out that o2 went live in my area about 2 months ago and I live almost nextdoor to the exchange!
o2 or BE here I come! :T0 -
Hi all.
I am a redten/fatcat/clode whatever customer, looking for some advice.
In December last year a friend of mine convinced me that redten was a good idea. He had been with them for a year with no problems.
I was paying £27 with virgin and so redten seemed a good idea at £12.99 and a pc. So I signed up and the equipment came through. Initially the modem didn't work but they quickly (one month later) sent me a new one.
I decided to keep my cable connection with virgin until I was 100% happy with redten (9 months later I still have cable...)
Then redten went bust and NJP came along but the username/password they provided never worked with me. I am a heavy internet user but because I still had cable it wasn't a huge problem for me at the time. Then I loaned the power cable to one of my friends as I didnt use the pc much anyway since it had no internet connection.
Then NJP changed to Fatcat.
I got the power cable back a few weeks ago but before I could give fatcat a try I had phone line problems and now the phone extension to the redten pc is disconnected. Its a long way from the main socket and I have no intention of trying to get one there.
What I need to know is :-
First of all is there a quick/easy way out of this? (I guess not by the size of the thread)
Can I just cancel the direct debit?
I have no intention of using adsl since I have a cable connection with Virgin but should I still try to get a mac code if I can cancel in case I want adsl in the future? Will I need that in say a years time?
I only got a BT line so I could use redten - could I now disconnect that line? Would it be best to have a MAC code before I did that?
I have had a look through this thread but I think my situation may be unique... also the thread is quite large.....
Thanks!0
