welcome smoyle2008,
I didn't get a letter and am not being transferred over at the mo. Still trying to get Redten and NJP to agree whether it's limited or unlimited.
I would be careful not paying as in your situation I wouldn't say they are in breach of contract. It would be seen as an error that could've been corrected and you'd then be in breach of contract.
On a side note, if we do get unlimited then it's likely that Redten will have to pay through the nose for our downloads, so let's download tons off peak, wink wink!
Been cut off again in the queue to speak to the manager!0 -
FUP for Redten. Our Fair-Usage policy is designed to ensure your service remains fast and reliable at all times. A very small number of customers use high bandwidth applications, such as file-sharing software (also known as “peer to peer” or P2P) or other applications, which constantly send and receive many different types of files, usually quite large in size. This type of activity uses a lot of bandwidth and can significantly reduce the speed at which other customers can access the internet during peak hours. Approximately 1% of customers use more than 30% of the available bandwidth during peak hours. We don't believe this is fair to the vast majority of our customers. Please be aware we may give priority to light users over heavy users at peak times. Our Fair-Usage policy automatically identifies the very small number of extremely heavy users and manages their bandwidth only during peak hours 6pm to 11pm, to protect the service for all our other customers. Outside peak hours, the use of the internet by these heavy users is not affected. We think this is a fair approach. It protects the quality of service for the majority of our customers when they most use the service, while at the same time allowing the extremely heavy users to continue to send and receive without restriction outside of peak hours. If you don't use Peer-to-Peer or file-sharing software it is unlikely you will ever be affected by this Fair-Usage Policy. If you do use Peer-to-Peer or file-sharing software, all we ask is that you use this software considerately and send and receive large files outside of peak hours. If you are affected, we will contact you by email to let you know that your usage at peak hours is excessive and is affecting other customers. During peak hours, customers affected by the Fair-Usage policy will share bandwidth with each other and will be separated from other customers. The speed affected customers experience when downloading at peak hours will therefore depend on what these customers are doing. If they are all web-browsing and reading emails, they will experience normal broadband speed. If, on the other hand, they are using Peer-to-Peer or file-sharing software they will experience slow broadband speed. Outside of peak hours, no restrictions apply. To manage your usage, just ensure that any file-sharing or sending and receiving of large files is done outside of peak hours.0

Benjimoron - When I signed up for Redten in 2006 I saved the FAQs from their webpage in case of just this eventuality.
The pertinent paragraph appears to be -
Are you really giving away a £500 PC for free?
Yes, everyone who signs up to Redten Internet for three years will get a brand new PC absolutely free. As soon as it arrives, it’s yours, and you can do whatever you want with it.
The implication would be therefore that you are paying for the broadband not the PC and thus cessation of broadband would appear to be grounds for cancelling your contract.0 -
Got through to the manager and he hung up on me!
He tried to tell me that 2gb is alot of data to be able to use (why he was trying to justify it I don't know as he seems to think it's unlimited), he hung up on me when I pointed out that just watching a few programs on BBC's iplayer could put you over the limit so 2gb is absolutely nothing!0 -
Hi Benji,
In my original credit agreement (Nov 2006) it states that the loan is for "Broadband & PC package", deposit £49.99 plus 36 payments of £19.99, it was marketed as a free PC, but in light of what has happened I don't know if the PC is considered free anymore.
I would like to know your thoughts on this paragraph from the credit agreement
"If you received unsatisfactory goods or services paid for under this agreement then you may have a right to sue us, the supplier or both"0 -

Nice one, will tell them when I get back through again.
I remember the part about the pc is ours, not theirs. I don't think it'll hold much weight but people were asking about it recently so thanks for quoting it.0 -

Confirms what mjr posted a min ago so thanks.
The last part I would say wait until we get stuffed, we haven't been stuffed IMO until we have no internet for several weeks or we get a limited service.0 -
I spoke to NJP and was told
REDTEN are your supplier and they would be the ones who would discuss your account spec with you as we are only the network wholesaler not the supplier to you.0 -
Just found my original invoice from RT it quite clearly states the £19.99 is for the broadband not the PC.

could you please share this file here?
Since I received the PC I've made some modifications to it, it was long time ago and giving it all back now or paying twice as much for outdated hardware seems ridicoluos.
Also are there anyone who ordered fixed IP address? I did and now wondering if NJP is going to offer it as well...0
