UPDATE
Spoke with Redten on the customer service number (only 15 min wait this time!)
Apparently our service is 'unlimited' but subject to 'fair usage policy' (paraphrasnig the FUP - unlimited downloads are alowed as long as big transfers are done out of peak times).
I must note again the the grumpy redten man said *UNLIMITED* - none of this 2GB limit with pay-as-you-go bandwidth on top of that.
Also spoke with NJP - they guy was very polite (unlike the redten call center bloke) and said that he wasnt able to advise on what download limit was in place as this had been discussed between Redten and the Directors of NJP.
He did note that truely unlimited services are a thing of the past as they are not commercially viable and have'nt been so for over a year due to the high cost of bandwith.
I think that what is going to happen is we will still have an unlimited service but Redten / NJP will monitor it like hawks and any high usage will slapped with a 'fair usage' warning.
But then, going by the Redten FUP, we can still download as much as we want through the night...
We'll see. Im sure the service wont be as unlimited as we had up until last week whatever happens...
On another note - has anybody logged into the details shown on the NJP letter recived last week? Does this say anything about limits0 -
Welcome Bobby fudge!
Just been speaking to NJP again and I'm still not on their system. Got to speak to Redten about that.
They also confirmed again that there is a 2gb limit, not the unlimited that Redten told me. Have to speak to Redten about that too, will update when I have.
Was the Redten FUP that we could only do big downloads at night? If that's the case then as long as it remains the same then I guess we're ok. Apart from me as I'm not being transferred anywhere! Not sure what will happen about my internet access.
Must say that the NJP customer service is probably the best I've ever dealt with, they answer the phones quickly and are polite and helpful. It remains to be seen whether they are 100% right with the info on download limits. I know who I trust between them and Redten tho!
Just hoping I can transfer over to another provider as for some reason the transfer to NJP has not gone through.0 -
Got an email back from NJP where I queried what the download limit would be and got this reply:
"the services you are on are dependent upon Redten we are providing the backbone network and as such you will need to contact thier service team to clarify your services"
As far as im concerned then i've contacted Redten and they say that the 'unlimited' service will still apply in conjunction with thier fiar usage policy.
I would advise people to go to the redteninterent.com website and print of a set of the fiar usage policy as I think that we could be getting it shoved down our throats as soon as we go above 2GB.
Reading between the lines I think that the following is the case (note this is just my opinion!!!):
- Redten are paying NJP for a 2GB servcice for all the customers that are being transferred.
- NJP will charge redten an agreed rate for any bandwidth above this level.
- Redten will probobly have allowed for a certain amount of usage above the 2gb limit for most customers based on their previous bandwidth history and have probably agreed a monthly rate for its customer base.
The only problem with this is if the total download of data from all the users is bigger thatn Redtens estimated limit - Redten will probobly go after the heavier users.
Benji - did NJP actually confirm to you a limit??

You could be right about them going after the big users but an unilimited service is unlimited right? Anyone got details of the FUP that we signed upto 18 months ago? Is the one on their site the same?
EDIT - The fair use policy doesn't sound too bad, like you said, take a screen print and as long as they don't make the FUP any worse then it should be ok.
Just on the phone to Redten, will take 1 and a half hours to find me on their database apparently! Which according to NJP is only 1300 customers!!!
EDIT - They just cut me off!
Don't understand why they can't put me on a conference call between Redten and NJP, then they could argue between them whether it's unlimited or not. I think I know why they won't do it, might do it myself using a couple of phpnes tho!0 -
Benji - FUP on the site still says that its unlimited.0

Does anyone know if we will be keeping our original Redten email addresses?
I hope so. It'll be a right hassle changing my email addresses on every site & service that I use.THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT0 -
Hi Everybody,
I've been watching this thread for a few days to see what's going on, I have been borrowing a neighbours wireless network to get online.
According to NJP I am one of 38 customers who are not going to be transferred to NJP as my service/number was taken by BT before NJP could get to it. I haven't received a letter either.
I requested the MAC on Tuesday last week & phoned Sky the same day and this looks like it's going through & I will be resuming normal internet service on Thursday 20th.
As soon as I get online I'll cancel by DD with Clode. This to me is clear breach of contract since I am not going to be migrated to NJP then this surely is breach by RedTen?? I didn't ask not be moved, (although I am glad because at least I'll be getting a proper service from Thursday) it was someone else's fault. I didn't ask to be cut off by RT, I don't see how they can make me pay the £19.99 when I am not going to be on that service anymore??
Anyone else not get a letter?0 -
Apparently I'm insulting their intelligence by asking how long it's going to take to send NJP an e-mail with my details. I'm going to phone NJP and make sure they've got it and deal with it as Redten are refusing to give any sort of timescale of when I'll get my internet back.
Also he says that the broadband is free as the pc is what we paid for, I thought it was the other way round? Anyone got anything to prove otherwise?0 -
fwiw you guys have my symapthy, i hope you all end up with the service you were initially promised.Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0
