I am 15 months into a 36 month contract with Redten.
I sent Redten and Clode finance faxes on Thursday, giving notice that if my broadband service is not reinstated within 24 hours, then I consider this serious enough to constitute a breach of contract by Redten.
No answer 24 hours later. So I have signed up with AOL - my fear now is that redten/clode have already used my Mac.
I believe Redten to be in breach of contract. Now the question is whether it be a serious enough breach to justify breaking the contract.
I believe:
i)The omission of 14 days written notice from Redten about the cessation of service
ii) The failure of Redten to communicate in any way as to any alternative service
ii) 5 days and counting without service
all add up to constitute a serious breach of contract.
That's my opinion anyway.
Now what happens? :rolleyes:0 -
We now wait til the 18th and hope the adsl modem connects with the new username settings you have entered? Also hope that the capped service is removed. If you have the leter you can log on to the url in the letter and check check the progress0

I signed up this morning for Orange broadband and they accepted my MAC and said there was no problem. I'm not staying with a company that treats their customers in this way. Even if I have to continue paying for the 'free' PC at least I'm getting a broadband service for £10 with a less fly company.
I do believe, however, that they are in breach of contract and as soon as my broadband is back online I will be persuing this further.Dannii_B

I have been checking the t's & c's of the contracts with Clode Funding Limited and Redten Communications Ltd.
The Clode contract is quite straightforward. It is an interest free loan repayable over three years and can be terminated at any time by notifying Clode in writing and repaying the outstanding balance of the loan. Clode can charge £12 for each missed payment and also charge the costs of recovering outstanding monies.
What I would really like to know is whether Clode payed the entire ammount of the loan over to Redten at the begining of the contract or is paying it month by month. If it is the former, then Redten have nothing to lose by anybody defaulting upon their contracts but Clode will be out of pocket. I suspect it is more likely to be the latter, as I cannot see how else Clode can make any money out of it. If I am right then it is in the interest of both Clode and Redten to keep us happy and if there has been any erosion of our service, collectively (must be several thousands of Redten customers), we have the ability to exert significant pressure upon them.
Redten's financial lifeblood depends upon new customers signing up. If there is a big stink about the quality of service, there will inevitably be an impact upon their recruitment figures. The beauty of it is that it is the very internet connection that they (hopefully) provide that can allow us to organise and mobilise an offensive.
For now, I am waiting to see how everything pans out. There has been so little official information from redten that I don't think anybody really knows the full extent of the deal they have cut with NJP but if we really are going to be capped at 2Gbits and treated in the manner that some of their existing customers are griping about then concerted action will be our only option. Individually, we can achieve nothing.
Incidentally, forget about the "free" PC, it remains the property of Redten for the duration of the three year contract and must be returned to them if the contract ends early for any reason. Hope you kept the original packaging as they can charge you the full replacement cost if the computer is returned without it.0 -
Good points about the packaging, I made sure to get it in writing from them that I wouldn't be charged in any way as mine turned up with red wine all over it! I've still got it tho, I think people were warned at the beginning of this thread to keep the packaging.
I also think that in the faq section it used to state that the pc was ours upon receipt. I doubt that this would make much difference but certainly when I signed up there was something saying that the pc was ours (although in the t&c's I think it said it was theirs.) All depends on how a judge would rule on that one, it's not an easy call. They shouldn't have claimed it would be ours but it was clear from the t&c that it was theirs.0 -
I couldn't care less if they want it back, they're not having it. After the way I've been treated there's absolutely no way. There's certainly not a chance in hell that I am funding sending it back to them, if they want it back so much after THEY have caused all these problems they can try and take it off me.
As far as I'm concerned that contract means diddly squat to me now, they can shove it up their proverbial after a week of no internet service that I wasn't notified of and a clear message from BT that I must change supplier - so I did. They can swing for their money and their PC back, and I hope most of you feel the same way.Dannii_B

Ive emailede fast4 from my customer account area to query the account I have been put on "Home Max Light". I have said that I signed up for 36 months for an umlimited service and asked them to confirm in writing immediately to confirm if I am going to get that service.
Like Ned says, be an interesting couple of days but if I am on a capped service then Ill request the MAC and move providers. Not having this.0 -
Ok folks,
Here is something I dont quite understand. Are we going to be capped at 2GB or unlimited.
The chap from NJP said in the register article that the asevice would be the same (ie 8mb & unlimited).
I take it that the fast4 login is telling people that the service is capped at 2GB.
The letter from Redten / NJP did not say anything about introducing a capped service.
I think we can log into the fast4 service just because it is ran by NJP and it doesnt really matter that it is saying the service is capped. As far as I can see - redten will be working with NJP in the same way that the were working with BT. I've not seen anything official saying that we are with Fast4 - so as far as im concerened - we aint!
I was also told by 'John ' on the Redten customer service number that the new service"would not be capped".
I guess we just wait till tomorrow.0
