    Hi All

I have been following this thread for a while now, and thanks to everyone for some very interesting, useful and occasionally amusing posts.
Now I'm joining in, so sorry but its a longish post.

It seems to me that the only forward movement at the moment is through Clode, even though their offers are largely insulting and abysmal. NJP refuse to get involved and deadten appear to have left the planet.
Unfortunately I am one of the idiots who paid for 3 years up front, so I cannot even negotiate with Clode as I have no involvement with them. This seems to leave me high and dry - no contact with deadten, no MAC and no way to even disconnect. Any suggestions would be gratefully received - I am sure there must be a number of fellow idiots in the same position. (BTW, I tried Sky and TalkTalk and both say they can do nothing without a MAC or disconnection). One question I would raise is if everyone is insisting only deadten can raise a MAC, how come Clode can promise to do so???
One final note - as I reached 15Gb on 7th April without even knowing the limit existed till I got the email from NJP pretending to be deadten (they couldn't even get the phone number or the email address right!) I have been throttled to no more than 6KBs since then and still am in spite of getting into May now. So I'm totally stuffed, exasperated and at a loss how to get out of the appalling mess. Good luck to everyone who manages to escape! I hope you get your MACs - time will tell.

If I was you I would contact Clode and explain your situation and see what, if any, your options are, or email their customer relations department (email on deadten website)

I would also mention that your bandwidth has not been reset and see what they suggest doing, I believe that this is now in control of NJP (someone tell me if I am wrong), I say this because Redten appear to be AWOL and, it seems to be handled (with your exception and maybe couple others) efficiently (counter reset at midnight, normal speeds resumed). Hope that this helps.

As rog paid in full upfront he has no contract with Clode and they owe him no obligations so I doubt very much they would enter into dialogue with him. They probably have enough on their plate with clients in contract.

I too was one of the 36 months up front idiots!! I was not transferred to NJP and have had no connection since 10th March.
Apparently I am being dealt with separately and should hear soon.
    I live in hope!!!

I made the cheque out to V12/Clode, so I presume that they have some obligation in this matter.
They are in dialogue with me but I await an outcome!!!

Did you use a credit card to pay ? if so you may be able to get them involved. Failing that I guess you'll have to take Redten to small claims court for a refund.

    Hi Rog,

I suggest you call NJP on 0871 424 0185. Explain your situation, making sure to highlight the facts that (a) you paid upfront, and therefore do not owe any money for the service and (b) you've been trying to contact Redten, but been unable to.

My situation was a bit different to yours, but had the important similarity that Clode refused to get involved - I signed up recently, and had never received my computer, so no payment had ever been taken. When Clode eventually sent me an individual response, it was a terse email to confirm that the finance agreement was cancelled. Having then spent a couple of weeks trying to get hold of Redten - or get help from someone else to get a MAC - without any success, I went back to them when they started sending out offers and promising to issue MACs to anyone accepting the offer, asking that they have a MAC issued to me, since they had already released me from the agreement. They replied saying that, since the finance agreement had never been activated, they had no liability and suggesting I contacted BT for further help (I had previously done this, so didn't bother again - that saga is related in an earlier post).

I have called NJP several times through this whole mess- and until this week they always refused to help, insisting that Redten were able to issue MACs, and had to be the ones to do so. When I had called last Thursday, they acknowledged that the customer service line was not being answered, but said that the premium line was still taking calls, and though the operators on that number couldn't give me a MAC themselves, they would pass on a request, and I should get a call back with the code. I duly did this, and the message was taken, but having heard nothing by Tuesday of this week, I went back to NJP, explaining that I had followed their advice, had been released from the finance agreement, and was still unable to contact Redten through any other channel. The man I spoke to said he would look into it on my behalf and give me a call back the next day. Having heard nothing by mid-afternoon yesterday, I called and was told that the request for a code had been made, and they should have it within 24 hours. I have just called back, and been given the code!

So, while I suspect they will continue to refuse to assist anyone still battling Clode, I would suggest that anyone who doesn't have to deal with Clode (and therefore wouldn't be helped by Clode) gets in touch with NJP. Not sure whether they'll still insist that you go through the rigmarole of contacting the premium rate number, but it definitely seems that they can get some movement now. This also rather suggests to me, as has been speculated in a few posts previously, that Redten are indeed now history.

Obviously, the above method unfortunately won't help you get any money back, but hopefully it will at least let you sign up for a more suitable service...

Good luck to everyone - and thank you to everyone who has provided information and advice.

    CWF - Free at last!

    (Sorry this is so long!)

Just saw "Redten"'s last post after sending mine - if you did pay through Clode, then clearly they do have liabilities and presumably you are still dealing with them if you're chasing them for a refund for the rest of the service, so the above may not apply...

(and Essex's point about the credit card is a very good one)

    :o

Apologies, assumed upfront payment would not have involved a finance house. So Redten never take any money direct from the customer? The plot thickens :o
  • Thanks for all the advice. It confirms my thought to try NJP again now a few weeks have passed and they may be willing to issue a MAC. If I get this and migrate to a decent provider I'll be able to get a decent connection again and get cracking on getting whatever refund I can from deadten or through my credit card issuer (which seems the best bet). I'll post again with any updates. Cheers all!

Just got my reply from Nick Davies a single line telling me my counter offer had been declined, so regretably it looks like court action after all.
