Please no one rush into this. They havent given us enough time to think over this offer. 5 days is not enough. The email does mean that have accepted liability though.

I wonder why they think £12 is enough to get unlimited broadband. I'm with BT and pay £24.99

    FCI what do you think?

im with virgin paying £17 for first 6 month then £24 after (not £12)

Hope I get same offer - £12 to find alternative supply sounds good to me - I've got around 28 or 29 payments to go.
    £12.99 -£12 = £0.99 times 29 months - thats less than £30 to be free of redten.
    Nothing in my Inbox yet.

I'm in same position as kevindowns - currently paying £12.99 a month, with about 28/29 payments to go. Can confirm that my 'full and final' settlement figure is £28.71. I understand the reservations expressed by others, being asked for higher settlement figures, but for those of us on this lower payment, the offer doesn't sound too bad. What I don't know is how quickly I'll get cut off if I accept - and how quickly Redten will provide my MAC code
  • Can everyone call clode and decline the offer. Jam the switchboard!

What was the email address that Clode used to send you the "offers"? Can you reply on this email address or is it a non reply mail address?

I haven't received an offer, and would find it amusing if they had done as they owe me £79.99 for a printer I paid for and never received, and I have asked countless times to refund me, and no I won't take a discounted price for the printer!!!

Apparently Clode will be sending the same via Royal Mail as well. Looking at the posts on this thread this morning though, lots of people haven't been made an offer yet!

What are we paying for in this settlement figure? I ordered extras when I signed up (printer, router etc), I am more than happy to stump up for them but the PC?

Not sure what to do now, jump and be done with it or suffer the stress for goodness knows how long. A very synical move by Clode and Redten I think!

i was trying to set up my deadten email last night / this morning and using -
    84.45.23.34 as incoming (pop3)
    smtp.redten.net as outgoing server
i put in my full email as per the instructions on the njp site,
and my password from my deadten letter and it refused my password, i found my password on the njp site and cut and pasted it in then it worked (the two are the same)
go to njp site and log in, click on "my email accounts" then click on your email address then click on "edit" it should then so you your password.
  • There are a number of factually incorrect statements in the emails you've all been getting from Clode.

1: None of you bought equipment from Redten - the equipment was free.

2: They say that Redten can supply you with broadband, as per their contractual agreement. Yes, Redten can supply you with broadband, but not as per contract. The contract is for unlimited broadband with no restrictions. You're all capped at 15GBs now - that's in no way unlimited.

3: They say they are offering you a way out by agreeing a sum for the remainder of the finance agreement minus the cost of broadband. The agreement you all have with Redten is for unlimited broadband and nothing else. If you accept the offer, you're effectively paying them for no reason at all, as you will no longer be supplied with broadband by Redten.

    The bottom line is this:

Clode is trying to get back as much of its money as possible. They are trying to make people pay for the free PC/laptop, whilst allowing you all to cancel the broadband contract. Basically, Redten was paying for the equipment and the broadband with the money they got you all to borrow from Clode. However, they did not factor into their business plan the rising cost of broadband provision, and the fact that they would face competition (AOL giving away free laptops now without having to take out a finance agreement, and only a 2 year contract, for example). They were also not aware that the way backbone providers charge for broadband would change (now they charge for usage, rather than for the line). Due to a bad business model and lack of foresight, Redten has found it increasingly hard to pay its bills, hence being kicked off BT's backbone. I would advise no-one to accept this offer. I suggest writing back to Clode explaining the above. You don't owe them a penny for equipment, as it was free and Redten cannot provide you with unlimited broadband, as per their contractual agreement with you. As such, the only course of action is for a complete cancellation of the contract without financial penality.

jeff - if NJP try to charge you for the extra 14gigs of usage, refuse to pay. After all, you are paying for unlimited broadband. If NJP want extra money, they can get it from Redten. You have no contract with NJP - your contract is with Redten. Thus, it's up to Redten to pay any additional costs for your usage, as they are contractually obligated to provide you with unlimited broadband.
