Just finished speking to Orange. I am on thier system as wiating for connection on the 31st of this month. But I have to wait for 72hrs to confirm the move by BT aka the MAC. Will it work I will let all know if it does. Also confirmed with NJP Services our new provider the new service is 2MB download speed and is caped as well. Still no responce from Clode as to what action to take.

@colder - I signed up in November 06 and the PC was "free".

The £20 a month I pay is for unlimited broadband services which I wont be getting anymore.

Therefore Redten are in breach of contact, if the contract is breached then its down to the finance company (as far as I am concerned) to get their money back from Redten. At least that is what I am going to tell them. Ill post again once I have done so.

  • Don't think we can change providers anyway as the MAC has already been used, I guess it should fail for the people that have used it.

Just been speaking to Redten, they say that BT are wrong to give out MAC codes and they haven't gone bankrupt but just are in dispute with BT about a bill.

With regards to the service Redten say that it IS an unlimited service with a FUP as before. They say that First4/NJP have got this wrong. He confirmed with a manager and I said I wanted it in writing, he said he would put it in writing for every customer so they could be sure! Take that with a pinch of salt.

So I guess we wait until it transfers over and if it's not unlimited then transfer over claiming breach of contract?
  • Ron, did they tell you 2mb, not 24mb?

    According to NJP it's limited,
    According to Redten it's not.

We'll just have to wait and see, don't think they're in breach of contract yet tho so would be careful with cancelling. Wait until we're on the service that is limited then you should be able to cancel as they would've breached the contract.

i just phoned the number on the other page ( 08714240185) and they told me they weren't able to help as they don't know who is moving over they are just dealing with the backbone.

@ben now i dont know what to do!

If i get the same service then I am happy. If I dont then im not.

What I dont want to happen is me to be disconnected from the network as I had issues when I moved house that there was no space for me to connect to the exchange and I had to wait till someone cancelled their ADSL to get online. Cant have that.

Just got through to a nice friendly chap at Fast4 internet who gave me the following info.
They recieved an order fom Redten on 11th March (Obviously after BT cut them Off) to switch it's customer base to Fast4.The guy had my details and said the switch was going through on my line and would be complete by 18th March. He said that we had all been migrated (and so I'd be surprised if your MAC codes work.)
He said that the service we're being put on has only a 2gb download limit, hardly unlimited. He said the delay is waiting for BT to migrate the service.
the following is an excerpt from Redtens T & C"
12.10 If at any time our Broadband supplier ceases to provideservices that we are unable to continue to provide any ofthe Services to you, we shall seek alternative to provide andyou will then need to transfer to the new Broadband supplier. We will not be liable for any costs incured by yourself duringthis process. You will continue to pay the monthly chargesfor PC/hardware you have purchased."Looks like we might all be getting well shafted. The guy at Fast4 said all of the customer service staff have been busy today and yesterday sending out letters to us all with our new Login details.
I also agree that it's probably best to wait it out until we get onto the new service, see whether it's unlimited and if not, then look at leaving due to breach of contract. incidentally they could make it 100mb/s instead of 24mb/s and it wouldn't make any difference to me as apparently my line will only accept 1mb/s !!!
  • I'm also a redten customer, been very happy with their service so far. But have, like others, been without access since Monday.

I've spoken to NJP services, who are providing a wholesale service to Redten in place of BT. We should have exactly the service we had before, but ADSL2 where it has been enabled. If your exchange has been enabled for Cable and Wireless ADSL2, then you should get your free upgrade. There shouldnt be any further charge, or caps or usage limits put in place.

This I think has been a major screw up for Redten, at least on the communication side of things. But then again, most of the smaller operators I've been with have had the same kind of problems.

@nog - i read that on Digitalspy too.

Way i see it, like i said above - I havent purchased any PC/Hardware so IMO if I am getting a capped service, Redten have breached their contract and Im offski.

Although I think I will wait till the 18th to see what happens.
