I've been doing some checking on Redten and things look a bit dodgy over the past couple of months.
1. Changed Registered address to a virtual office in London (23 Castalia Square), away from their previous address in Luton (JESSA HOUSE 1 FINWAY, LUTON), but still have the Luton office as their trading address.
2. Previous Managing Director of Watford Electronics, Shiraz Jessa, resigned from the board in July just before some sort of loan was taken out.
3. Doing a Company Search on Redten Communications Ltd on the website www.bytestart.co.uk lists the company as 'Dormant - Non Trading'
4. If you get the MAC from BT you are informed its only valid until the 17th March and not the usual 30 days a MAC is valid for.
I'd request your MAC now and be prepared to jump quickly if their service fails to come back up soon, failing that you'll have to pay a new ISP a connection fee of about £50.

From earlier posts it was suggested that Fast4 was where Redten were transfering services to, I emailed Fast4 to confirm this and have just received the following reply..It is not Fast4 who are very soon to be looking after your internet
connection but rather Fast4s supplier, NJP Services.
I understand however that currently you may not have service due to a
''walled garden'' from BT (a ''walled garden'' is where you are only able
to see one webpage on your internet connection regardless of where you try
to visit) suggesting your service will be ceased shortly; I can confirm
however that orders to move RedTens customer base to NJP Services network
is currently going through correctly and does not appear to be affected by
any cease or closure requests by BT for your line.
The RedTen customer base should once again have service by the 18th or
19th of March however in the meantime if you have any further queries
about these changes, please contact Customer Services on 0871 424 0185
where we will endeavour to assist you further with any questions you may
have.Mortgage - Free :j

See, this is all well and good, but what if Redten are having problems - my MAC expires on the day before the change takes place.
Im really not happy with the lack of customer service, and all things being equal im ready to jump ship. I dont want to get into problems re: finance agreement so I think ill talk to the finance providers first and tell them what I plan to do and get their "nod".
Anyone else got anywhere with the finance people?0 -

gnipper,
I have spoken to the finance company twice and they basically told me nothing they asked me to email the accounts manager which i did and have still not received any reply from them.0 -
@colder,
Ive sent them a fax stating my intention to cancel the finance agreement due to no service being provided, no customer service from Redten and the fact that it "looks" like they have gone out of business.
Asked them to contact me immediately so watch this space.0 -
Posted elsewhere but maybe relevant? :-

HOT INFO
Redten is out of bussiness!! Your MAC code has already been used to transfer the service to NJP Services (back bone provider for Fast4net). I have spoke to them in the last 5 mins and had confirmed that the service will recomence on the 18th.
New service is 2MB AND LIMITED WITH ONE MONTH CONTRACT AT JUST UNDER £10.
.
So Redten is in total breach of contract. By providing a lower service to what we had. I will now wait to see if Orange phone me because they should not be able to use the MAC.
Contact no is 08714240185. Very polite and helpful (so far).
Also 38 customers could not be transfered if you call they can confirm. Asked question about finance and they are getting back to me as they were unawere of the finance agrement we have...."
Ok, so now im quite worried :S0 -
Just got off the phone to NJP, it appears that the service we will be moved to is a 2gb limit service. NOT UNLIMITED!!! He says that their current customers get charged for the extra above 2gb which I'm not sure how would work for us as we've already paid up front via a loan. Either way they can't charge us for extra as we signed up to an unlimited service that they have to equal if they change providers. They said that they've changed from bt (and an unlimited package) as the costs of bandwidth were too high.
They also said that there are 38 customers out there who aren't to be transferred for some reason. I am apparently one of those as my details don't appear on his system. Not sure if that's just a glitch or I'm actually one of those customers. Quite happy if I am as that should be my way out!
Still not sure about this BT page, they are saying you must transfer by 17th, think I will transfer and then anything that comes of that will be BT's fault therefore they'll be liable. Either way don't want to be transferred on to this new system, and would be quite happy to pay less per month. Don't want to have to pay the finance company and don't think I will as BT are liable as they told me to swap and they are now providing a worse service than they used to so they are in breach of contract.
Also don't want to have to give the pc back as I'm not the one breaching the contract. If I have to then I have to but it's not really in the sport of things to transfer you over to a worse service effectively forcing you to have to break the contract and give the pc back when I've been paying extra for it.0 -
You beat me to it gnipper!!!
Have to say they were very friendly about the whole thing though. (Just noticed you said the same thing!)
Don't understand your bit about the limit, as far as I know it's 2gb limit and 24mb speed (although what the point of that speed with that limit is I'm not sure!)
Are you one of the 38?
So even if I try to use the MAC code it won't work? Why the 38? What's the problem with transferring them? Maybe I am one of them as I requested the MAC code straight away (although haven't used it), maybe that meant they couldn't get it? The guy I spoke to said that BT had cancelled those 38 people's lines before Redten could transfer them, maybe he means that those 38 had requested a MAC. Either way, apparently I'm one of them.0 -
When I spoke with 'John' yesterday (on the redten customer service number) he said that there would be no download limits.
Looking back though, he did have to think for a second or two when I asked him his name at the end of the phone call. I definately smell a scam!
Hopefully we can cancel this terrible service. Anyone had any luck with the finance company?
And so much for it being turned on again by friday....0
