    EDIT -

    Just spoke to technical support.

They sound like they are reading from a script which isn't good. They continuously congratulated me for choosing Redten as I will be upgraded to 'the best broadband speeds'.

When I asked if they were still going to be running on BT Wholesale the guy I was talking to said that BT would still be providing the service. This makes me very suspicious.

BT would not just give Redten new faster speeds and no other provider.

There is some seriously missing information here.

Oh yeah I forgot to say that cable and wireless bought their ADSL2+ network from...... that bastion of customer service: bulldog internet.

    Paddy,

Did they give any idea on the timescale for getting it back up and running / switching over to the new provider? or is it still 'the end of the week' ?

    Thanks

    GRG.

hmmm, the guy said 24 hours but I don't buy it at the moment.

    Still seems too vague.

Considering he was a technial support bloke he knew nothing about the backbone provider and whether they were switching or still going to be using BT.

What worried me was when he said BT would still provide the service because I know that that cannot be true.

I'm also in the same boat on this - only thing is I took the MAC code and have already ordered O2 broadband instead:confused: (I'm a swift mover, lol).

If Redten are indeed going to be coming back online in the next couple of days, I'll need to cancel the O2 order pronto. What was the number you guys managed to get through on? I've had no joy on any of them so far.

It's a safe bet to assume that if BT Wholesale have put that page up RedTen will no longer be provided by BT Wholesale for the long forseeable future :)

My advice to people would be to give Ofcom a call & see if they have any updates. If enough people raise an issue they'll investigate to at least make sure RedTen will update customers.

    Alisk,

    It was 0905 099 0200 (Cost 50p a minute)

Let us know how you get on - try to get an answer if it will definately be coming back on.

    Thanks,

    GRG

    Paddy,

It could be that the tech guy was meaning that the service will still be provided through a BT line, but by another provider (C&W / Tiscalli etc.)

I could just be being optimistic though I guess.

    GRG.

    alisk,

The trouble is that Redten are giving zero useful information out. I rang the tech support number which is a 50p min 09050990200 but they do pick up straight away.

Worth ringing consumer direct or similar to find out how you stand on the finance deal before cancelling any direct debits.

Hmm, I got the same as you - badly read script stating that the service is being upgraded and a promise that all will be working by the end of the week.

I asked who the new service will be provided by - apparently they have not been told this.
I asked why BT were saying that they had not been paid - apparently they have not been told this (I'm sure we're seeing a pattern emerge here, lol)

Supposedly a letter has been sent to me regarding the issue as well - I have yet to receive this.

I fail to see how they can be making all of these changes, yet no-one seems to know who is providing them or what is going on with the current provider?

Well, I've already used my MAC code to switch to plus.net, I don't know how long the downtime will be, or how long they allow themselves in their T&Cs, but this kind of service is rubbish, and I don't want to pay for it. People's experiences trying to get answers out of Redten only go to show further the crap service being provided. alisk - once you've given a company a MAC code, and they start processing the order, if it gets as far as BT Wholesale, you're moving and you can't pull it back!
