In my experience If BT Wholesale's cancel page is there then the ISP in question hasn't paid their bills.
Alarm bells should be ringing by now0 -
Hi
We too saw the message from BT Wholesale last night.
To be honest the service has been pretty hit and miss.
Don't know whether rubbish service or underpowered laptop.
Any road up I called the Consumer Direct line this morning and she advised to contact the finance company as there may be a 'linked agreement'.
I have also e-mailed their "Customer Service" team at care@redteninternet.com. I have also seen their message on their portal regarding transferring to a new faster backbone and that some of us might loose (sic) some services ( or even connection for a day or so). We'll see.
I tried to ring but just got musak on the line.
I'm going to see what happens but I am tempted to seek a new ISP and try to stop paying any further Direct Debits. But before I stop payments I will speak to the finance company and possibly my Legal Advice via my Home Insurance policy.
Given BT Wholesale have terminated their service to Redten due to them ceasing to trade or repeatedly failing to pay their invoices I think Redten have broken their contract with me and I can seek redress from Redten or The Finance Company, or both.
I'd appreciate as much feedback as possible so I can determine where we stand.
Cheers,

I spoke to the finance company yesterday after seeing the message from BT,I joined in December and no payment has been taken from my account yet and i am still waiting for the laptop to be sent i explained this to the person from the finance company he couldn't find my account and when he did he said it was inactive and would need to speak to the accounts dept as he didn't know what do.
I'm in two minds whether to just cancel the service and go with a more reliable company or wait a few days and see what happens.0 -
Does anyone have the contact details for the finance company?0

Finance company redirected me to Redten support but all I get there is cheesy music.
Anyone had any success in getting anything out of Redten today?0 -
Does anyone have the original Redten terms and conditions saved from 2006? The ones on their website now were created in October 2007. It'd be really helpful if you could email me a copy. I can't locate mine and signed up in December 2006.
I have switched to another provider as I need a connection for work and can't afford to wait around. I intend to sue them for breach of contract, so a copy of the original terms and conditions would solve a lot of hassle. If anyone else intends doing teh same, Consumer Direct can advise you (they do the initial consumer advice work on behalf of trading standards).
Thanks, Pete.0 -
Paddy,
I spoke with the technical deartment on the premium rate line. (0905 099 0200)
They said it should be up again by the end of the week - and NOT to cancell account or obtain and use MAC frmo the BT page.
One things for sure - their customer service is utter pi$h!!!!0 -
Pete,
They probobly have a clause in their original T&C's about downtime or change of supplier - so I dont think you would have much of a chance sueing them. You would also have to complete your contract with the finance company as they are separate to Redten - you basically get an interest free loan off them to pay for the broadband / pc.
It's quite annoying as it puts most of the risk with the customer, should the company go titsup.
As you have signed up to someone new - you might now have to pay twice as much for your internet, unlucky!
Im just hoping that it comes back on later in the week with 24MB as promised....0 -
grg,
Thanks for the info, all seems a bit too vague for my liking! All this stuff about 24Mbps is a bit hazy.
The only thing which it might be is that Redten is moving all of it's customers over to the Tiscali/Cable and Wireless ADSL2+ network, but has done it in a pretty haphazard manner.
It certainly is confusing but this would make sense to their claims to be able to provide 24Mbps.
I think it is sensible to ask for a MAC Code but just hang onto it rather than use it to switch.
It is valid for 30 days so by then we should know what's going on (hopefully!) [EDIT: I have realised that this doesn't mean you have 30 days to switch as BT Wholesale will cut broadband in seven days regardless.]
If you don't get a MAC code and BT Wholesale cease your service then you may well end up having to pay to get your line reactivated.
