It's Saverstore.com, the reincarnated version of bankrupt Savastore.com/Watford Electronics.
Do a search on here for Redten - they were doing this last time, before they went bankrupt...
It's basically the same as all of the other offers - sign up for an expensive broadband contract for a long period of time and get a PC thrown in.
Much less flexible and not much difference in cost to buying a PC and getting your own broadband.
Are Redten likely to be around in 12/24/36 months' time???British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
In case you haven't noticed, looks like Redten Internet are surfacing again with a new, 'improved' offer - free pc etc etc for £12.99/month. That'll teach me to sign up for 3 years at £19.99/month! The new site is at http://www.redteninternet.com/index.aspx but, curiously, the old site is still there at http://www.redteninternet.com/index.html. You can also still read their proud history as part of the Watford Group at http://www.redteninternet.com/history.html.
I'll finish there so you can all go and recommend them to your friends.;)0 -
Hi,
We signed up with these people the first week they started advertising, and had no trouble recieiving our PC etc, had top notch service for about 6 months, but in the last three months or so we have had repeated problems, I dont know if anyone else has had this but its a recurring issue for us.
It started sometime in june, our connection ceased to function for a period of about five hours or so, during which calls were made to 'tech support' who informed us there was a problem with the Redten network, and everyone's connection was down.
The symptons however were most unusual, our DSL router has a couple of status pages that inform users of the current connections status, and throughout the outage the router remained 'connected' to the internet, and was assigned an IP address on the WAN etc, so as far as we were concerned everything looked completely normal, however none of our computers on our network could make any kind of connection to the internet. Restarting equipment/swapping out various components made no difference either, any router we tried gave the same reading. The problem miraculously resolved itself after around about five hours, and we presumed it was a one of freak event. Not so, since then, at a frequency of about once a week or so, the same thing has happened for periods of 20 minutes to about an hour, and nothing we do can make any kind of connection to the internet whilst this happens, and it just seems to solve itself after a while. Since then, our speed has also dropped from an average 5-6 MBps to around about 2 or 2.5MBps.
Having had perfect service from BT Retail for around four years before switching to the cheaper RedTen, and a subsequent 6 months top service, this whole thing seems rather strange.
Has anyone else been having the same/similar problems?
I am no expert, but does anyone know if this kind of trouble could be caused by the ISP themselves, or because the connection is provided by BT Wholesale, is the problem there? I am inclined to think the former is true as the people at RedTen acknowledged a fault when we called them, but I do not see how this can be the case?
We don't think this is as a result of excessive bandwidth useage either, as we monitor our bandwidth usage closely, and estimate we probably upload/download no more than 10GB in an average month, sometimes a lot less.
I intend to call RedTen on this issue as soon as their support lines are open on Monday, but I would appreciate it if anyone else that has had similar problems would post with details and if they have found any sort of solution.
Thanks in advance.0 -
After leaving AOL and going to RedTen because of the problems I was having with AOL, whose answer to every problem is to move the PC to the master phone socket. I decided against moving my desk outside my bathroom and went looking for a new ISP. I found RedTen and was very happy with the service I received and my new free PC. After hearing about the problems at Watford electronics, I panicked about losing my internet connection and went looking for another ISP.
Talking to friends and family, I decided against Tiscali or Pipex and anybody with their own servers because they always have connection problems. As for Orange, the future isnt orange, its pear shaped. I went BT and still have my RedTen and nobody has asked for it back. The safest bet for problem free connection seems to be a BT line. I also tried Car phone warehouse, who couldnt even get a simple order right and I was advised by one of their own staff that their internet connection always has problems and not to bother.
Despite the problem with Watford electronics, all RedTen customers, still have their internet connection. Now I hear RedTen is back and with a better deal than before. After doing some digging, to make sure Watford werent around after hearing it was just a management buy out at Watford electronics. Thank God it wasnt true!!! RedTen has infact been bought out by an independant company, who have some very strong backing from people like Microsoft and Toshiba and they use a BT line.
Bill Gates and Toshiba arent stupid and I'll back any horse that Bill puts his money on. So, I'm off to RedTen to get my free laptop.0 -

They dont have backing by Microsoft,BT or Toshiba , all they mean is they sell you a Toshiba PC with Vista on and they use BT's network0 -
No, thats not what it means. I've done some serious digging into this and found out they've received considerable funding from Microsoft and why sell Toshiba and not some other brand?....... unless you've done a deal with them and have their blessing.
The relaunch of Redten and the new offers clearly show there's money come into the new company.0 -
Links to your findings ??
Personally i think you are spamming, why are you going to Redten to get your free laptop, according to your post you already have the pc and its a 3 year contract0 -
Perhaps things have improved, I haven't had a failure since my last post, so fingers crossed the new outfit have sorted whatever the problem was, although if it does recur I shall give their support a call and post any findings here.0
