Reading this on above site why the hell will BT not migrate me without MAC
BT is to start charging ISPs which fail to provide departing customers with MAC codes - which help make moving provider seamless.
Many internet service providers are slow or unwilling to issue the Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) to rival providers and as a result BT has decided it will start imposing a penalty charge of £33.75 from May 2007.
It hopes that this will encourage ISPs to voluntarily issue the MAC numbers in order to avoid being charged.
"If service providers participate in the MAC code process the cessation charges will not apply", a BT spokesperson told The Register.
The MAC code should allow customers to switch easily between providers via BT's Openreach, which installs and maintains services for communication providers.

It may have taken 34 minutes of waiting with terrible music, but someone on the sales line actually answered! 0844 482 0000
I've managed to request my MAC code and give them new contact details.
I've been promised an email and a telephone call when they have it.
Does anyone know how long it takes to generate a MAC code?
I'm not holding my breath.....
30mins maximum

just to clear things up for you all
broadband has always been your limit or unlimited usage has always been calculated on up load and download transferres its never been different from anyone .
when you sign up with broadand providers that claim unlimeted make shure you check with them first off what in thier terms of fair usage policy is a limit if they have one they feel to be abusing the system ie: ill qoute one from bt wholesale about bt unlimited they stated to me that although it is classed as unlimited they have a hundered meg limit on that before they email to say they think you are using too much and ask for you to limit your usage so in real terms for them it means you relistically are being told that they think 100meg is considered enough bandwith usage in any one month and the difference in that is redten in various faq`s and comments they had stated it was totally unlimited within the fair usage policey which bassically stated times for heavy use to be monitored
so be carefull in when you sign up to any one and ask what they consider in the unlimited policy is fair in thier eyes and if they impose any limits to the unlimited bit of the contract.
and for you being cut off or disconnected for visiting websites redten are not allowed to monitor you and where you surf unless asked by an authority to do so ie police or copyright agencies or have been told by such people that certain sites are classed as illegal or immoral or the likes and have been banned or removed for investigation or any other reason to that effect.
redten are not allowed to do a lot of things they have already done!!!!!!!

Can you supply me with a MAC code if I needed one?
Yes MAC codes are supplied to all our users if and when they request one, we aim to supply the MAC code with 24 hours of the request however it is usually possible to supply a MAC code the same day.
There are three ways of obtaining a MAC code from us, you may use your members area for time and convenience, this is a fully automated way of obtaining your code. Otherwise simply write to us at our postal address or use the ticketing system from within your members area and we will issue your MAC code upon receipt.
Please note that you may still be liable for any charges on your account at that time but this will not stop any MAC code being issued.
NJP Services advice for issuing mac codes. Use the ticketing system, not a problem!!!!0 -
Thanks grg79679, I had already tried all that. But you got me thinking.
I had just changed my password on FAST4 members area as my password was the original REDTEN one from Nov '06. Didn't change it on my modem so when it fell off it wouldn't reconnect on my back up config as that had the NJP supplied password.
Does anyone know what happens when we hit the 15GB, i.e are we throttled or are charged per GB over at the end of the month? When is the end of the month, they seem to quote 11th I was connected on the 19th the 15GB clock started running from the 1st!!!
Any news from :money: yet?0
