    I agree, I am very dubious about these figures, I find it going up increasingly quick when my PC is left idle sometimes. The fact that they combine the uploads and downloads sucks as well. very sneaky move.

    5Gb only for very light users --not for daily use. suitable for emailing, without heavy attachments; and a bit of surfing say for holidays or research for homeweork etc. ir loading web pages.

    Not suitable for actual downloading of files and activities.

    So if you actively download PDF files and video clips etc you will use that combined allowance within a few days.

    You cannot download without uploading at the same time as your computer needs to keep telling the download computer where its at /how much has been downloaded/how long its taking/what the connections/who you are etc etc etc.

    still curious as to why we have static ip addresses when the site says its an advanced option that costs 2.99 a month. and it says all redten internet services come with dynamic ip as standard. i asked njp and apparently we all got them on redtens request on the 18th march, call me cynical but doesnt it seem like they used that to find out our usage??
    Tell me about it I paid the extra to RedTen back in Nov 2006 for a static IP as I need one for work purposes and now everyone gets one free, don't see any rebate for my £108 over the three years.

    I have posted details to the Computer Active magazine today as they have a Consumer help service also. They published a quote in this weeks issue from RED TEN Managing Director Baber Gulzar "...There is a misundertsanding that the computers are free.They are not-the three year finance deal people sign up for is to pay for a computer and the broadband is effectively free..." he said..
    I am sure the adverts they ran said broadband package with a free PC!!

    misleading adverts then --and knowingly misrepresenting goods and services then. --guess he'll have to explain that to ASA ( again ) and to Trading Standards.

    If I was MD of Clode my thought processes would be;

    I appear to be jointly liable for provision of unlimited broadband to Redten customers under Consumer Credit Act. Unlimited broadband is no longer being provided by Redten to customers. Therefore I am in breach.

    In which case;

    How do I ensure a minimum of loss to my company? What can I do to ensure that the maximum number of customers continue paying their direct debits to the end of their contracts.

    My options are;

    1. Force Redten to reinstate unlimited broadband - unlikely for commercial reasons. Therefore provision of a cap which a large majority of customers will not exceed seems reasonable. Once a proper time has passed remaining customers can be deemed to have accepted new service by their continued use of it.

    2. Risk a test case in the small claims court against a complainant. There are likely to be customers with the motivation and wherewithal to conduct a strong case against me.

    My argument is to be that customers have taken out a loan from my company which they must repay. However as I believe am jointly liable for the provision of goods and services for which the loan relates to I need to show that such provision has not been materially affected. I would like to include the PCs as goods for which the loans relate to. Documentary evidence which undermines my case exists in the public domain;

    Redtens 2006 T&Cs make no mention of free PCs or unlimited broadband. However both implicitly and explicitly on Redtens website and in documents sent to customers both of these offers are made. Customers have had invoices sent to them detailing Redten PC at zero cost and 36 installments at 19.99 for broadband internet. Ergo there is a document showing products and agreed prices that Redten has provided the buyer which fundamentally flaw this aspect of my case.

    Am I liable for the provision of unlimited broadband? More difficult. Would a complainant downloading a terabyte of data be able to persuade a court that as they had paid for unlimited broadband such a volume of downloading was reasonable. I doubt it. However as a change has been made without proper notification to customers then if a complaint that there has been a material detriment of service is made in a reasonable time a court will likely uphold.

    I may personally have to spend time and money arranging the defence of such a case and rate success as a low probability. I could be liable for costs and set a precedent that others customers could follow.

    3. Settle with those customers who have registered complaints in the proper fashion. Cancel their contract without accepting responsibility and provide them with Mac codes. As a result my staff and I will no longer have to deal with them. The majority of the maybe 15% of customers that I lose have paid around half of their outstanding loan. I can issue proceedings at some point in the future against Redten to attempt to regain the balance.

    Therefore;

    My least loss of revenue is accepting losing those customers who have complained in a timely manner and keep remainder on 15gig a month paying their monthly direct debits until the end of their contracts.

    seems to me that they ae going to offer the original dynamic ip with the option of a static ip to new customers now they have changed all the t'&c's and given old customers static ip to weed out the heavy users that dont fit in with the new plan
