Right
1. Redten aren't answering the phones - what a surprise.
2. NPJ said yes we are only company that can provide you your mac number but we cannot do so unless we recieve a request from Redten. "We are just the backbone provider, you need to contact redten". How I asked? When they don't answer their phones or email? "all I can do is give you their number".
I was got so angry (not proud of that) I hung up.
Anyway hopefully someone else here will have more luck.
All I want is my MAC code AND I CANT GET IT.
Will keep you updated and I hope if anyone does get through to RT they will post the outcome in this forum.0 -
Morning folks  It sure ahs been busy on here over the long weekend! Shame I didn't have any bloomin net connection from home.
Just to update on my current situation... sent RT a formal request to cancel email last Thursday. I don't need to tell you I've heard nothing back, right?
I had brief access to the net on Friday so threw caution to the wind and tried using the original "7 day" MAC code offered up by the BT Wholesale page we all saw. Sat tight over the holidays and have just received confirmation that the request has gone through and I should be online this Friday. So *touches wood and crosses fingers* it looks like the MAC codes dished out by BT Wholesale are actually still valid
As to what I'm going to do about cancelling RT... I'm not sure. If they don't respond to any cancellation requests then they must surely be in breach of some legal mumbo jumbo somewhere. Hopefully that will give grounds for cancelling my DD payments to Clode. Hopefully!0 -
Well folks, no response yet from Clode or redten to my emails of last week.
They will have got my formal follow up hard copies today to both redten addresses.
will let you know and will also post on HUKD site.
Good to hear that mac code may still work but I am sure someone else said their didn't, cannot rember who though.

Spoke to BT broadband this morning and explained the situation re redten/npj and their refusal to provide MAC codes. BT's mac request team said your only option is to give Redten 5 working days and to then contact ofcom. Ofcom can then order BT wholesale to delete npj/redten's marker (CHOKEHOLD!) on your line, leaving you free to choose another provider.
So if you tried (as many of us did) to contact redten (via tel/email) more than 5 working days ago you can now complain directly to ofcom on 020 7981 3040
PS O2 broadband (who also own be) tell me that come 02/04/08 most exchanges will be able to use their services. (So if you cant get be/o2 and can wait / want to go with be/o2, it may be worth waiting).0 -
Have spoken to both NJP and Clode this morning. Starting to get somewhere, got a bit of confirmation of some stuff and started to get Clode to take some responsibility.
Have updated on HUKD with all the details, search "redten gone bust" on google, it's the first result.0 -
On the phone with clode
"our finance agreement is for the PC only and not for the broadband service". 10:41am
I said: then why on the contract does it say description of goods or services "broadband and pc package"?
er you need to email us:
"customer.relations@cloderetailfinance.com please quote the agreement number, account holder name and a description of your complaint."
I suggest you note:
[a] the agreement was for broadband AND Pc not just a pc. (The agreement desribes goods or services delivered as broadband and pc package). I.e. the agreement was for a good (PC) AND service (broadband). If the agreement is for a PC only why mention broadband within the description of goods and services to be providied in the contract?
All redten customers (and if you check redten's website right now) signed up to unlimited broadband. Redten's new service provider (NPJ services) is providing 5gb per month CAPPED not UNLIMITED broadband. This is not what any redten customer agreed to. This is not what redten is even now offering on their website (they are offering unlimited broadband). Any check of website archive records will show redten at the time of this contract being taken out were ONLY offering unlimited broadband.
In short the 1974 consumer credit act confirms if we are recieving unsatisfactory services paid for under this agreement the agreement may be void and we may be entitled to compensation.
I would like Clode to confirm:
1. Whether broadband service is included in the agreement and if it is not why is the description in our agreement for goods and services "broadband and pc package"?
2. Do Clode agree that if redten are shown to have been ONLY offering unlimited broadband at the time the contract was signed that it is reasonable to assume we believed, when we signed the contract, that the broadband service to be provided was to be unlimited not capped?
3. Does Clode agree their agreement includes no definition for the term broadband? And what said term constitutes?0 -
very intresting call with npj
1. re capped not unlimited service "we are providing to redten what we are contractually obliged to" i.e. the capping is deliberate.
2. re redten failure to pay BT and the chance npj won't be paid "lets just say that that problem was avoided by them paying up front".0 -
Some great info phoenixbrighton, might be worth adding it to hukd in case it gets deleted here.
I had a very similar conversation with them but pointed out that the pc was free therefore the funding must have been for the broadband (which then makes them joint liable).0 -

This thing's got more twists than an episode of lost. Whenever I phone these people I feel like saying I'm one of the "Redten 38", as if I'm famous!!! (Lost - "Oceanic 6")
How much up front have they paid? They surely can't have paid for the rest of everyone's contracts?0 -
re earlier post re clode...
dont complain to clode just yet..
Clode seem startled when its mentioned we posses documentation saying the PC is free and are now asking people to submit written requests.
Would strongly advise everyone to did out any documentation relating to clode and RT and then visit a solicitor. Esp given the fact the agreement mentions broadband and pc and not just pc.0
