milgo, Simply-fone is for ringing foreign numbers.

You could ring the British mobile direct from Orange, but then that one would be subject to roaming charges.

So yes, your friend gets a Turkish SIM (the phone may need unlocking) and you use the S-F access, available daytime acc to website. Don't forget - don't dial send after the 2nd number; best to save the 2 numbers together with pause character between.

    Thanks for the reply andy88

I used the 07744 974333 to call Colombia. However, I've just had my mobile phone bill in (Singlepoint, Vodafone partner) and I've been charged 25p per minute for calling the number. I phoned Singlepoint to find out why the number didn't come out of my inclusive cross network minutes, and they said that the number originates in Guernsey and is not classified as a UK call, but as an International call. I've been stung for £35 worth of calls in a month. In summary, do NOT use 07744 974333 for international calls.
Singlepoint will reverse the charge if you just call them and say it is cross netwwork. do not mention international calls. I was charged £5.44 and after my bill came i called them and told the lady I hav been charged for cross network and she gave me credit for it. Looking at the posts here even vodafone (direct) does the same. only 3 charges it and classify it as personal service number.

One advice is when trying these numbers always keep your calls low in the first month and check ho it comes up. had a lot of friends overuse the 0870 numbers on 3 in the early days when they were free. 3 wisened up and started charging. these guys ended up paying £100s in mobile bills.

  • u may be advised to know that my friend after complaining strongly has received a full credit for these call from 3 network and has also received a confirmation email that she will not EVER be charged for any calls to 07744974333 unless Ofcom make a ruling.

taken from email sent by 3:
I can confirm that any further charges to 447744974333 will be credited back until such time that the charging status is confirmed by OFCOM.

    great huh!
  • Does that mean that three network now includes calls to simply-phone in their price plans or phone calls to it only redemable via complaining?

Thanks for the info, marjorie. I feel a 333 phone call coming on, possibly followed by some 07...333 phone calls :)

Who knows - but bottom line is they've refunded once (& i 've an email to prove it) they should refund again....

Andy... sounds like u in need of ....333 counselling.

By the way: i called s-f about my problem and they told me also to use 07744 974 363 . Not sure why it should differ, but quality to India and Sri Lanka mobile was gr8!
  • I visit canada and the US a lot and wonder if there is a way to use my mobile for either receiving calls (from my wifes o2 mobile) or making calls without getting the usual high call cost

Phones over there use different frequency bands 850 and 1900 rather than our 900 and 1800. If your phone is tri- or quad-band, you'll be ok, but it may need unlocking; otherwise get a cheap phone over there.

In USA and Canada, the cost to call to a mobile is the same as to landlines. The extra cost of mobile is charged to the receiver in many cases, but still cheaper than here.

Using a local SIMcard, you can be reached using the Simply-Fone service from UK mob incl minutes, or via 18866 or 1899 from landlines. 1899 will be 3p connect and free minutes from BT landline - more on 18866 and 1899 on home phones board.

It is probably possible to use a calling card service from over there to here, but I'm not so clued up on that at the moment, and whether 800 numbers are free

I've heard 7-11's Speakout (roaming on ATT/Cingular) recommended as good for visitors; comes with a phone for up to $80, less rebate (Nokia 3595 in Sept)
    * the AT&T/Cingular network (310-380) is now considered in-network. As such, calls placed and received on are now charged $0.20 compared to the old $0.39.
ps if your wifes O2 mobile does not include X-net minutes you could use just-dial or, my preference, easy-dial, or other cheap access 0844 numbers (see Martin's callchecker) from the inclusive minutes. Or does it have off-peak additional minutes at 2p?
