  • Ok i have spoken to my local branch bank (bank of Ireland) who tired their best to patronise me claiming it would cost me £7 per sheet for any old statements (obviously they are still issueing extortionate charges).

I then made my intentions clear that i wished to claim back charges and told the guy i would phone head office in Belfast - within seconds he agreed to send out copies of any charges F.O.C.

However he wont send my statements without me paying £7 per sheet. This worries me bacause what if they don't send out copies of all charges, like maybe half and i need my statements to collate this information. My sister in law is with the same bank and she got charges and statements F.O.C. i guess it depends what mood the cashier is in.

I had many charges during my time with Bank Of Ireland and know i am entitled to reclaim a hefty amount. How (if i receive copies of the charges) do i calculate what i am owed?

    Many Thanks Ciaran

If you write asking for a list of your charges under the Data protection Act they can only charge you £10 max which you enclose with your letter. The Template is in the Reclaim Help Thread.

Thanks done that and got a list of my charges - however i know the information is incorrect they have a list each one saying referral fee and all @ £14.50. Now i dont even need to see my statments to know i never paid that little. Each time the charges were between £30 - £35. I know this as fact but how do i prove without my statements

I'm the same with the Ulster - they're a bunch of *grr*

I sent a letter asking for copy statements, the cheque bounced - my own fault I'll admit - they then wrote back asking for a postal order, sent over a week ago now, and no reply....

I'm starting to get fed up with them
  • I'm claiming over two thousand pounds from the Northern Bank in Northern Ireland:eek:. I cannot go through the small claims court because unlike England their limit is two thousand rather than five thousand pounds:( . I would like to know if any one else has been through the larger court system

I will move your post over to the bank reclaim charges board. You should be able to get more specific information on your query there.

  • Yeeee haaaa!!! As I posted a couple of days ago I was asking the Northern bank to return my bank charges which totaled just over £7,000. As expected they sent me a letter basically saying ''no'' and that if I had a complaint I should follow their complaint procedure. I followed the advice from the web site and sent another letter stating that this was'nt satisfactory and if they did'nt give me the money back I was taking court action. There was no reply and I was beginning to lose heart,. Because the amount was so large I would have had to pay costs if i lost in court but I decided I would go a head anyway because of the reported success of others. Then came a phone call fron the bank manager, rather worked up telling me that I did not run my account properly and that basically I could'nt possibly expect a pay out especially as i had a loan out with them that I had'nt paid. Basically I remembered Martin's advice and told him I prefered to keep it formal and if he wanted to discuss it any more he could do so with my solicitor. As you can imagine he was annoyed at that and got of the phone. Then a few days later came a letter offering me a rounded off figure of £7,000. I just wanted to tell everyone in a similar situation to stick with it! It's your money and they are in the wrong and you will get it back. If you are like I was scared because you ran a bad account or because the amount seems alot don't be put off!
  • want to claim back from ulsterbank but I stay in Scotland and not sure how this would go any advice appreciated
