Can I ask who you emailed and what information you provided? I assume you just need the account number?

I presume you just threatened to cancel via email too?!

I emailed after logging into my online account using the contact us email link. My email was polite and explained why I wanted to cancel - as I stated this is genuine low use, my son is away at college on a course where he only has 2 weeks off in the summer, I work away from home as well, and we only really watch the football - I sometimes watch documentaries.

When the lady called today, I was polite as always, good manners costs nothing is my philosophy, I agree with the Sky employee who posted, and I was made the offer instead of cancelling and starting again later in the year.

I do think Sky customer service seems to be improving compared to how it was a few years ago?

just a heads up to those who think that by phoning sky and 'threatening' to cancel will always get them a good deal - it won't...if you phone up with a civil attitude and speak to us as you would like to be spoken to we will be only too happy to help and offer alternatives if you find the cost too high! Trust me...if someone phones me with an attitude, expecting me to slash there bill and offer them the world, but can't say please or thankyou - I won't. :(

Give me a call...sort me out a deal...I promise to be nice

I find this very difficult to believe. I know a lot of people that have worked for Sky retentions, as well as other companies like Virgin media and Orange and i find it very hard to believe you would fail to retain a customer, and therefore revenue for your employer & working towards your attrition targets, just because the person cant say please or thank you, and if you do, you probably wont be working there very much longer.

Retention don't care much for manners. They care for making the save, and if you can do it, you do it.

Note I'm not saying its wrong to be polite, or that people shouldnt be, just find it incredible that you would not carry out your role for that reason alone. Thousands of people are rude to customer service advisors every day and if they refused to deal with anyone calling up that was abrupt I dont think they would last very long either.

I understand that the goal is to retain customers, yes if you phone up you probably will get some kind of deal but if you're rude, nasty and aggressive (as a lot of people seem to think they have to be) do you really think you're going to come away with the best deal possible?
And, for the record, i've been with sky for 10+ years. :p

Yay I just called Sky as I did not want to leave but finding the £70 a month cost for tv, broadband and phone quite a lot. Got the tv reduced by half so my bill is now £48 for 6 months which is fab and even better works out at just £27 in July!! : ) Can add the savings to my Florida fund - thanks to everyone on here x

My six months half-price offer is now up. Do they give you a second offer straight after or do you have to wait? We pleaded poverty last time which is true but my husband would be lost without Sky Sports.

Wow that's really good. I'm not sure what to do at the moment. Our Sky box keeps playing up and is not an HD box. I'd like an HD box, but don't want to upgrade to the HD package as can't afford the extra £10 per month, so am shopping about a bit for best solutions.

Hi, I have done this - call and cancel because your box is broken and you are going to get a freeview HD box. Stick to your guns and they will offer you a free HD (freeview only) box. You will not get Sky HD, but it will be OK for all of the freeview channels. The only catch is that you have to agree to stay with them for another 12 months.

As per my initial post starting this thread I did not threaten to leave just suggested I was paying too much. Being polite always helps whenever you are dealing with people.

Am I missing something - I got my bill cut half price for 6months - and was polite and nice - but my bill is nw £80/mth instead of £110 ??? We have all three with sky? Am i being ripped off? We have sports/movies and HD - it sounded like a good deal to me? Just checking!

BTW - I love Sky and would pay the extra for it ! My dad has BT Vision and it sucks !
