Sky offer to me (existing Customer)

Hi Not sure if this will be true for everyone but there have been threads about this before. Just contacted Sky to discuss (not even threaten to cancel) my existing subscription which is the full package Sports Movies and HD. Immediately offered 50% discount for 6 months, no arguments no hard sell and no extension to my contract terms. Another small point also decided to move my phone to them as well (nothing to do with the initial Sky package discount which was offered before I decided on this) after being told I do not need to get BT to reconnect my old line. at their very high cost.
3.995kWP SSW facing. Commissioned 7 July 2011. 24 degree pitch + Solar Immersion installed May 2013, after two Solar Immersion lasting just over the guarantee period replaced with Solic 200... no problems since

Wow that's really good. I'm not sure what to do at the moment. Our Sky box keeps playing up and is not an HD box. I'd like an HD box, but don't want to upgrade to the HD package as can't afford the extra £10 per month, so am shopping about a bit for best solutions.

Speak to Sky. HD boxes are the only ones they provide now, so you can still get one even if you don't subscribe to the HD pack (£10 per month extra).

Obviously not having the HD subscriptions means no HD channels, other than the freebies such as BBC etc.

Our Sky box stopped working and we replaced it with a Sky HD box for £60 and got 12 months HD subscription for free.

I rang to cancel Sky a year ago , and they gave me half price for a year , just rang to cancel again as half price had finished and they said we can give you half price for another year if you like. Will see what happens next year .:D

I had the same issue and called up, they offered me the HD box installed for free WITHOUT HD subscription, so no extra cost just sign up for another 12 months and you do get the free HF channels such as BBC & ITV etc....well worth it I thought....I did have to go far as to threaten leaving, not rudely, just saying it didn't work and I couldn't afford HD.....so worked out fab, maybe try that?

There was a thread about this sort of thing on hotukdeals a couple of months back if you want to check it out for tips. At that time, I called Sky and told them I wanted to cancel because Virgin was offering a free hd recorder box and half-price package for 6 months (which they were). They offered me a free Sky+ hd box with free installation, said they couldn't give me half-price Sky for 6 months (though some people managed to wrangle that out of them in addition to the free hd box). I did not have to sign up for an hd package, I just wanted the Plus box (they offered me free hd for six months if I wanted it, but then I would've had to pay for the hd for the next 6 and I'm not bothered about having hd). I did have to sign a new year contract with Sky to get the box.

You should give it a go. Worst that will happen is they will go ahead and take your cancel order -- which you have something like 2-4 weeks to change your mind about, so you would just call back later and say you changed your mind and don't want to cancel (though at that time I'd first ask if they could offer anything to make me stay, and they probably will).

I ended my Sky contract earlier this year and they kept ringing me up to offer me half price for 12 months and I could opt out at any time plus £50 of M&S vouchers. I agreed in the end because I was missing all the channels.

We called to cancel our movies package as we only have it on for a few months over xmas for the kids, asked why we were cancelling and told them the movies on this year was a disgrace. Most have been out so long they were on normal tv anyway. They cancelled it for us and as a goodwill they dropped our phone line rental a bit for good.

It sticks in my throat a bit how Sky seem able to offer various different deals dependent on whoever you speak to! Are there no guidelines about this, e.g pricing policies etc?
We live in an area where we have poor tv reception and have been with Sky since it first appeared on the scene, and have managed to wangle a free sky plus box in the past. My dad has been with them since the beginning too, has an HD package (complete with sports AND movies) but his works out cheaper than my normal package! Go figure!
I also have internet and phone through them - guess its time to shop around a bit!
Women marry men hoping they will change, men marry women hoping they won't! Inevitably they will both be disappointed.
