I rang Sky yesterday because I was cold called by a company on Sky's behalf who were trying to flog cover for my Sky box which will be 1 year old in August (I am in Sky contract until then). I told him I wasn't interested & put the phone down after they just would not listen. They never tell you their company name but by saying they are calling you on behalf of Sky they try & give an impression they are part of Sky. If they call you don't sign up. I then rang Sky to complain through the cancellations option & spoke to a lovely lady about my complaint. I also explained I have TPS & wasn't happy that an outside company had all my personnal details given to them by Sky. The lady immedietly stopped all future calls to my home & as a gesture of goodwill because I am on TPS gave me 20% of my Sky package for 3 months. I was polite & courtious & she was only too happy help. I am still in contract until August yet she gave me a discount on my tv package & she said call back in August to see if they can offer me a deal when my contract expires too. It just goes to show if you are polite & have a valid complaint to Sky they will only be too happy to resolve an issue in anyway they can that is fair to both parties. A big thank you to Sky.

    Great result! :T
Sky never phone customers to offer insurance on their equipment, I've even had those calls and as soon as i say i work for sky they hang up!! If you need insurance call sky and they'll point you to Domestic and General who is the ONLY company used.

Yowell, it WAS Domestic & General. D & G cold called me, I am on the TPS. D & G would not take no for an answer so I had to politely put the phone down. I might add they never gave their name only, "I am calling on behalf of Sky". I am not prepared to pay £96.00 per year for cover on a less than 1 year Sky box. I googled the phone number they called from & I am afraid to say many people have been fed up with the constant calls they have been getting too. Sky cancellations as I stated were brilliant & I did appreciate the gesture of good will even though I am still in contract until August.

I have had sky for about 8 years, had lots of deals, when i rang up in april they couldn't offer me a deal so i cancelled. So having now been without Sky for a month i was getting twitchy, i don't really miss the channels but i do miss the sky plus. I was beggining to think i might have to give in and pay full price and today i got a card through the door, asking me to come back and get any package 1/2 price for a year. RESULT. i was on the phone faster than you can say Yes please. PLus if you had premium channels they would give you a £100 towards your bill (but i didn't want them ). i am a happy customer with a happy husband and daughter .
  • I've had to phone up and cancel mine as with oh going in hospital for a while it's costing me £100 a week in petrol to visit him so I can't afford sky. They asked why, I explain this and they said ok it will stop in 31 days.

I just called up and got the 1/2 price deal.... many thanks to mickyduck for starting this thread.

The trick is you don't have to threaten to cancel. Just say times are tough, you're looking at ways to save and wondered if they had any deals on at the moment.

I've just called Sky to cancel, we'd looked at the freeview channels & decided we'd give them a go.

The Sky guy asked why we wanted to leave & I explained I didn't think we were getting value for money, he immediately offered six months half price & advised me to ask again what offers they have a that time as Sky don't want to lose 'long time' customers.

    Result :j

Thanks everyone, however, almost immediately DH was in possesion of the remote & he's now watching cricket....oh joy of joys :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
