to watch pre-recorded stuff have you tried unplugging phone line first. was told that you can order box office if you not got line plugged in they cant charge you until its back in, not tried it so dont know if it works or not but it let may let you get to stuff on plus box
It won't, my phone line is unplugged all the time and when I lose a sky channel, I can't watch it on recorded sky+.
I also can't order any films without the line being plugged in.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

Ok, so I phoned and they offered me 25% off my TV package for 6 months which equates to £13 a month but I am now going to be starting to pay for HD @ £10.25 a month. Hubby wants to keep HD and I am also considering swapping to their broadband and phone package. Should I haggle for more?
    TIA.

After reading this thread, I plucked up the courage (after 10 yrs of sky !!) to ring and ask for a deal ...

I actually asked to be put through to cancellations, and advised that I wanted to cancel.... the advisor asked the reason, and I told him (which is true) that I had recd a mailer from Virgin and that it made me consider the amount per mth I was paying for Sky ... well he went through every option to reduce the pacakge to get the monthly cost down .. but when I said I can get what I have now with Virgin for a lower price ... he then came up trumps with the 50% x 6 mths reduction, with no contract or tie in ( I have full sky & sports and ESPN - and been a cust for 10yrs + - with no prev disc deals).

The advisor also advised to re-call when the 6mths disc period are up to see what else they may be able to offer me !!!

    Result ... !!!

They phoned me as requested and I asked if we could have the same deal as DH's friend as he got 50% just over a week ago, put on hold for about 30 seconds and all done! Woohoo! Thanks OP. x:beer:

On the TV you can get 50% of everything for 6months with no contract extension. Its easy!:

    1. Speak to cancellations.
    2. Say you're leaving because its too expensive. (don't say you're thinking about it - say you want to leave)
    3. Stay on the line until you get 50% off!

Not sure about the broadband and phone - I think they usually have 50% off deals - if not for existing users, then certainly for a new broadband and phone customer.

what happens if they do not offer you any discount and really do cancel your account? :(

From my understanding of this thread you will have 30 days to change your mind until it really does get switched off and cancelled, during this time Sky will no doubt phone you to offer you some good deals to make you reconsider your life changing decision!

Someone on this thread said their broadband was cancelled and there was no way to correct it.
  • OH and I were able to get half price subscription 2 months ago no tie in period.

Does anyone know if we would lose the offer if we now upgraded to HD+ with free set up and box (and extra £10.25 per month)?

Has anyone else done this please?

    TIA
