To those who have cancelled after not getting anything offered to them - has anyone had sky get in touch with them during their notice period?

I didn't. I was on the full package with 3 multiroom subs before so I was expecting to be called but nope they were quite happy to let me go.

However, 2 months after cancelling I got a 12 months half price / no need to sign up for 12 months again if I didn't want to, offer letter through.
Herman - MP for all! :)
  • Has anyone managed to move straight from a 12 months 1/2 price deal to another discount deal?[/QUOTE]

I've NEVER paid full price for Sky. We've always managed to get it half price or less. However we have sometimes been without it for a month or so.

We only ever have the variety & knowledge packs. Quite honestly IMHO I really don't think it's worth full price.

When you consider that you can now get iplayer (thinking of moving PC nearer TV to use this) plus unlimited films (that you want to watch) via download for far less than the sky subscription then is it REALLY worth it?

We're thinking of buying Audialsone which captures streamed content & then either put content on RW discs or hooking up the PC to the TV. That way we could download at night (12-8 uncapped) probably in a months unlimited film hire enough content to last us months. Just wonder if anyone has done this?

I've just had the 6 months half price offer extended for another 6 months after ringing to cancel saying I couldn't afford it.

I get all channels and movies, (no sports), and multiroom for just under £30 a month, when the 6 months are up I will ring to cancel again, if I don't get the offer extended then I will actually cancel!
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D

I don't think Sky give a monkeys about me. Phoned to say I can't afford to keep Sky if the current bills for basic sky+ and knowledge pack, HD and broadband are 42.50 a month which IMHO is well over the odds. She said the best thing she could do was take off the HD element. She said that was the best she could offer so I asked to be put through to cancellations - no need says she, cancelling an account is something she can do.
    Drat:(
Called back to speak to cancellations who seemed to be of the opinion that I shouldn't get anything because I'm already on a low level package.
Then transferred to another department who offered me my exisiting package plus movies for £42.25. A WHOPPING 25p saving!
Any advice for people like me without movies and sports. I want a better deal too but they're not budging!

Its really a luck of a draw as who you get on the otehr line! When I phoned a year ago after going through all the motions about cancelling, can't afford it etc teh guy came out and ask directly as what do I want (I was on a basic package already)- he offered me a SKy + box or 25% for 6 months- I choose the Sky + box.
What I plan to do next is that before I go away for 2 weeks in May I phone and 'cancell it' and see what happens... if they won't budge after 2 weeks once I'm back I will probably get Virgin or just stuck with the freeview box, they will try to get you back even if you have to wait a month.
If you van forego without SKy (don't forget the sky box acts as a freeview box) for a while there is really a good chance that they will try to tempt you back with some good offer... originally my OH fighted tooth and nail to keep his Sky sports package but just had to give it up because we couldn't afford it (plus I was fed up with being a footie widow) and now he hardly ever mention it...

We are still in contract, they deducted £10 per month, and she said phone back in the last month of contract to see what else they can do.

You have to be prepared to cancel the subscription to sky. I always ring up meaning to cancel, if they manage to convince me to stay, then so be it.
If they don't, I cancel, then they have always rang me back before the months time period is up. Or on one occasion we had to go without for a couple of weeks.

None of us are so useless that we can't go without sky tv for a while and if you are, then be prepared to pay more. It really is that simple.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

I totally agree with what you've posted. NO WAY would we pay full price. It might do some people good to try freesat for a month or 2 and see what they REALLY miss. At certain times of the year Sky seems nothing but re-runs. I'd be willing to bet that most people could easily cut their subscription down & you all will get a call or a letter offering you half-price (usually for 12 months) on any subscription if you do cancel.

Why not arrange to have it cancelled if you're going away on holiday? If you are away for 2 weeks it'd be normal to have a super half price letter on your return.
