    Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
    i rang the other day as my remote was playing up, they told me they no longer sell them as you can get them form argos and supermarkets. so no freebie for me.

    After posting on here I looked on sky's website to try and find the price of their remotes, but couldn't find any info so at 12.55 I rang the number of their call centre and I explained the situation to the guy on the phone and also adding my sky+ box plays up too and he said as I was out of contract I wasn't entitled to a free remote, but they do sell them so try again fairytinkerbell. He asked me to describe my remote, colour of front and wether it had a rubbery back and then said I could buy one for £19.99. He also tried to offer me a new HD box, free if I took up HD channels or £300 without. I don't have a HD tv at present and decline all offers as I didn't want to wait for remote in post. I then looked online and the sky+ remote is priced at £20 in Argos and £20.42 in Tesco. I bought in Tesco as I had £7.50 CC vouchers. I then went home and found the original remote stuffed in the side of the sofa that I had checked a hundred times so returned the remote today lol!!

    I've been with sky nearly 4 years and never been offered any deals. Maybe I should get that tv with freeview and cancel sky lol!!!
  • got my wife to ring up sky yesterday after seeing this thread.After telling them we needed to cut back on monthly expenditure,the lady said she would have a word with her manager.We got the half price for 6 months offer reducing our fee from £47 to £23.50.She also said to ring them back in 6 months to discuss our situation then.I have a felling i will still need to make savings then.....;)
  • Due to O2s price increase I was looking new broadband provider. Called up Sky to see about their phone/broadband packages and was offered same as new customers. Already have TV with them and currently out of contract. Called up to cancel TV and get bundle deal with Virgin and was offered;
    • half price TV for 6 months
    • half price line rental for 6 months
    So now paying £22.88 for 6 months then £38.25 after that. Compared to £15 to BT £10 to O2 and £20 to Sky. Quite pleased! Now also means I get access to the anytime + features.
  • We called them yesterday as our 6 month offer is ending in a few days time. We weren't offered any new deal so we have given our notice. I am a bit gutted that we will be losing sky + as we use that loads but I can't really justify paying £20 for the few programmes that we do watch (always on sky + though). Have decided we are just going to have to get back into using iplayer and 4OD.

  • Called yesterday and got our full package down to half price for six months. All channels, including ESPN for hubby, broadband and line rental for £41 a month. Very pleased with that.
    He said to ring after the six month is up to see what he can do for us again!!

    I ring them every twelve months saying we are thinking of moving to virgin!! They don't like that!
    A small Thank You can make a BIG difference ;)

    they will 9 times out of 10 ring you again soon and ask why you are cancelling and give you another deal just hold tight and wait for the call.
  • Thanks Bigmacman. In one way I hope they do call us and offer something better but on the other hand they will be doing us a favour if they don't as money is very tight at the mo due to our electricity and gas having gone up by £35 per month and we will lose £36 per month on our tax credits when changes come in in April so a total deficit of £71 per month is going to hit us hard. Not having the sky will only save us £10 per month at the moment but it all helps I suppose. But as we can't afford to go out anywhere the documentaries that we watch on sky + after our children go to bed is one of our few pleasures in life. So maybe we should have it but I still don't feel we can justify paying £20 per month for it when iplayer exists! Maybe we should look for some good old fashioned free ways to have fun together! Before anyone starts thinking anything naughty I was thinking of playing cards! We don't have the energy for that kind of thing any more (I don't sound like I'm in my 20's do I?)

    Just rang and spoke to a very nice women and she offered me 50% off for 6 months and no contract and she said I could ring again in 6 months and could possibly get another deal.

    Looked on the Virgin website and the build your bundle section and quoted some stuff, she couldn't have been more helpful. Very pleased.
