I managed to get the offer today, my 2nd attempt. Earlier in the week I ended up giving notice on HD as my free 12 months offer finishes next month. Today the guy in cancellations was very helpful, I mentioned that Virgin had offered me 1/2 price for 6 months against my sky prices and thats what I ended getting.

Unfortunately he said he couldn't apply it to the HD so will be losing that next month :(
  • I have just phoned cancellations to say I wanted to cancel as we were finding it difficult at the minute ... The nice lady offered me 6mths at half price of our sky world package so I snatched her hand off :T well pleased, ;)
I hate the name child support and can't say it without a nasty feeling in my tummy. ...
Dont shoot me down I am as PWC and a NRPP so I am at both ends of the stick and the CSA stinks !

We tried this when we wanted to go to the full tv package with Virgin as it was going to cost us less, and they offered us 6 months half price! So we stayed with sky so always worth it..especially when you present facts of how cheaper it is for you and your family with another company offering the same sort of service..etc

i tried that but they weren't having any of it this evening :(

I tried too, so I cancelled, lets see if anything happens, keeping fingers crossed.:(
Anyone else cancel, then sky send you an offer during your notice period?

  • I've cancelled a few times. Sky will get in touch with you during your notice period. We've had just 2 mixes - variety & knowledge. If I remember correctly we were offered this for £7 a month for 6 months & then renewed it at same rate.

We have no sky at the moment and yesterday had a letter offering us 1/2 price for 12 months + a £50 M&S voucher - this brings it down under £6 a month for a year.

I'm tempted BUT we only have an old sky box - no Sky+ facility which I'd really like. We were offered a free engineers visit last year as box was playing up slightly. We didn't take this.

IF I took up the offer of 12months 1/2 price + £50 M&S vouchers - as we were offered a free engineers visit last year does anyone know if we could possibly also blag a free Sky+ box or hopefully HD??
You might be able to get a free sky + box, think you ll be very lucky to get the HD as well though, mainly because they have to replace your dish, cable and fit the new box for you to recieve the sky + service.Worth a go though :)

If you give notice to cancel and they do not call back, I take it you can change your mind within the 30 days and keep the current service. Anyone know for sure?

Yes but be prepared for major problems!! We did this back in January because we didn't get offered any deals and my husband went through to cancellations. Nobody rang us within the one month period to offer us anything so a few days before everything was due to cancel, my husband rang them and told them he had changed his mind. They did at that point offer him a deal and told him that our service would continue as the cancellation had been stopped. However, on the day that the one month's notice would have been up, our sky talk and broadband was cut off. We contacted them and were told a system error had prevented the cancellation from being stopped. Also, as the line had been completely cancelled, we would have to re-order our phone and broadband and wait 3 weeks for installation of a new line. We would also probably not get our old number back. As a mother of a child who is under multiple clinics/hospitals with that number and also a husband who has stationery etc with that number on, this was a big problem for us. We were then told there may be a way to get the number back after installation. This was all booked for 1st March (back in beginning of Feb). I rang Sky on 22nd Feb to make sure that installation was still going ahead and to confirm we would get our old number back and was told there was no way we could have the number unless it was specified on the order at the point of order (which it apparently had not been). I was then advised by sky to cancel the installation and re-order requesting the old number at point of order. However, I could not re-order until installation date had completed (apparently you can't just cancel an order and that's it, it takes up to 10 days for cancellation to go through!). The cancellation completion date happened to fall on 1st March (original installation date) so on this date I rang sky to place the order again, requesting my old number. I was told that whoever had told me that you can get your old number back this way "DID NOT KNOW WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT"!! I was informed that there was no way they could guarantee your old number back and I would be better off just letting the new installation go ahead as planned. When I asked what installation, I was told an order was placed and installation was to take place on 28th March!! I hadn't even re-ordered and they said they could not see how this order was placed but it was definitely there!! Despite my arguments of this being a sky system error and sky employees giving out false information and advising me to cancel installation, they apparently cannot get this solved any quicker or guarantee my number back.

The upshot of this is, although we stopped the cancellation of the services before the one month period, it was cancelled anyway due to a "system error" and we have been without a telephone or broadband since the beginning of February and will continue to be until the end of March! So beware if you do cancel!

...Same situation here - we have been on the 12 months 1/2 price deal, initially when we said we wanted to cancel they offered 6 months half price, but then they said there's something on the account to say we can't have another deal whilst this one is still running (it finishes towards the end of March). I would cancel for real but DP has sooooo much sky+ stuff still to watch he'd kill me!

Has anyone managed to move straight from a 12 months 1/2 price deal to another discount deal?

was switched off today :( was offered 12 months at 25% off when rang to cancel last month but declined..
Hang on in there! We cancelled, then within 2 weeks of being cut off, recieved a letter offering half price any package for 12 months AND £50 in marks & spencers vouchers. Good things come to he who waits!!!
  • Hadn't found this thread before I phoned yesterday to ask why my monthly payment has gone up without me being notified. The girl on the phone was so lovely! We talked about how to save £ on my package which didn't get anywhere, OH would kill me if I got rid of Sky sports! So she said as a gesture of good will she would reduce our payments by £10 a month. Clearly its not as much as some of you but to us it was bloomin' brilliant! Just from a query. If only I'd phoned to cancel!!!
If you knew it then you know it!
