    Hi all

Im just off the phone to sky and basically picked all the options to get put through to the cancellation team. I said I was really thinking of cancelling my subscription as I was looking at ways to save money and that my husband was talking to virgin and he thinks we could get a better deal there.

He offered my a free sky+ box and free installation which would tie me up for another 12 months.

I didnt get offered any discount on my monthly fees.

I only have a standard box at present and the basic mix which costs me £24.50 per month.

Do you think this is a good deal please?

Well jarr reckons he's got half price permanently, can't see it myself. :rotfl:

You lot have been bombarded Sky, are you surprised you aren't getting anything better? It even says on the MSE main site they only have a certain amount of deals to give. At the moment they're fobbing off the 1/2 price 'offers'

Yes I've got mine cheaper permanently. :rotfl:

Ask for a free HD box and not pay the monthly subscription for HD.

Update...Lady rang back today (exactly when she said!)-went through my notes of our last conversation and what she had offered me. She told me that if I did not want to proceed then I was under no obligation to do so.
Said that we did- got free sky plus/hd box-(not having hd activated so not paying hd subscription) and free installation. Changing my phone from BT to sky- she then said I can give you half price line rental for 6 months (which she had NOT offered before) and my broadband is reduced from £15 to £7.50 p/month. I am not tied into any contract:D... only if I were to have had the sky HD subscription.
Thankyou very much to OP and the rest of you...am really rubbish at this kind of thing but am very happy with this-have saved money AND got a new sky plus box & installation for free:T x

Good luck to the rest of you x

That's more like it. You probably were one of the first to use their offers before they ran out and switched to the 6 month giveaways.

    Hiya

I just have basic sky, same box for the last 5 years or something, not + or HD or owt. Pay 21.50 per month for entertainment, kid and discovery package. I'm pretty sure I'm not on a good deal, but have no idea what I should realistically 'ask' for. At the mo, I cant afford to pay any more on the monthly fee (made redundant), can anyone advise what is a standard thing they may offer?

(sorry, have only read the last couple of pages of this thread, but I was getting confused!)

    TIA xx

Ask for free HD box and no HD subscription.

Jarr - any idea how someone who's a new customer (ie me!) might get a good deal?

Say you looked at freeview and virgin also. Write down what prices and package and box you'd like. Say that the other companies are offering similar. It'd be an idea to compare then write a good deal down. As a new customer you got a chance of a better deal than anyone. Sky WANT you!

    Thanks Jarr.

I dont have an hd telly and cant afford to pay the extra for hd so I think I will just go with the sky plus as its free and maybe I will actually get to watch some tv when this is installed as my hubby has got the tv buttons permanently attached to his side lol.

    Thanks for your help

Ask for the HD box plus no subscription anyway. You'll have the box ready then! Just say you're going to buy a TV in a few months so no point in paying the subscription for the full 12 months plus you want the box ready.
  • After days of me nagging him, my husband eventually rung sky. We have the full package with HD and sky+. He just said that he was looking of ways to save money and was thinking of cancelling. Immediately he was offered a 25% discount for a year which he is very happy with. Said they couldnt offer him a discount on the HD charge of £10 per month but said they would cancel the extra VAT on our payments for a year to. My nagging does pay off!
  • After speaking about this thread & nagging him to phone he finally did it and we also got the 50% off for 6 months, thanks OP :)
