Sky offer to me (existing Customer)

I just called sky to cancel, I'm sick of paying £62 a month for TV
As it's in my OH name I called and gave all his details, they asked for a password - couldn't remember it, after a while I remembered and then called back, they advised that I still wouldn't be able to cancel the account due to it not being in my name - it comes out my bank account though!!!
So they didnt offer me any offers to stay, told me my OH would have to call and cancel - could they not have told me that the 1st phone call!!0 -
I'm going to give them a call one night and see what I get offered - have to admit to been a little nervous though! What will I do without Sky+ in my life if they just let me cancel straight away!? :O0

I read on this thread that you have 30 days to opt out of cancelling once you have cancelled and that they always call you a week-2 weeks before that to make sure you want to cancel and if they may then offer you something good to stay with them0 -
piratetaff and others - just to put your minds at rest. When you give them 30 days notice, thats exactly what it is. You wont lose Sky for that period. I held my nerve until the 29th day of my cancellation period , then rang them . they made no offers, so I said I want to cancel the cancellation - "no problem , done". There is no period to switch it back on, they just cancel the cancellation ! All you might find is that you wont pay Sky for the next month , but then pay double for one month after to make up for it.
lialloareds - Im in the same boat as you , old kit and long term Sky user. trust me , they want you to have the updated kit. Id be gobsmaked if they dont offer you a free kit upgrade.
At the end of the day Sky dont want to lose any customers. the days of churning might be sneaking back. Theyd rather you pay them £10 a month instead of £30 for a while and stopped with them , than you jump ship to virgin.0 -

Same here, and husband works away. I can't cancel or downgrade, but I can upgrade to add more channels if I want! (i've done that in the past)
They phoned and offered us free HD a couple of weeks ago (We cancelled the HD after the first year - had an HD box 3 and a half years now) and they wouldn't let me accept their offer because my husband wasn't at home. It was free!! They said we could cancel it after the 5 months if we wanted, with no penalty.
My HD box has been playing up for months now and i'm sick of it but refusing to pay £65 for a callout charge. I've now bought a new power supply unit for £30 for the stupid Thomson box (well known fault - i'm on my 3rd and they always give me a Thomson!) so have decided to fix it myself!0 -
Just gave Sky a call to upgrade current Sky+ to HD.
Managed to get free Sky+ HD box along with installation at just £15 and also free HD content for the next 6 months.
Total saving of over £100
Worth a go everytime.0 -
Just wanted to throw in my 2 pence with Sky as I don't know why people have issue with them. I have been with them for 2 years now on Sky+. Basic TV package, phone and Unlimited Download internet. I have never paid more than £25 for my whole package. Just ring up every six months be friendly and polite, say that you can't afford what they are charging and you have been looking at Virgin and bingo!! cheaper package. I pay half price tv and phone for 6 months, then call back and say the same thing.
Hope that helps some people0 -
Gem, I think you have been extremely lucky that every time you have rang up you have managed to get a reduced price.
I have rang sky many times and threatened to cancel but they have not budged.
I was fortunate today to get a deal.I rang and spoke to a lady who offered me the free HD box but I would have to pay the monthly subscription and £15 delivery and would have to set it up myself. I told her I was looking to save money not spend more on HD so I would not be taking up her offer.
I immediately rang cancellations and told the bloke I wanted to cancel as I had had an offer from Virgin for free Box and six months half price and I wasn't happy with the offer I had just been quoted from sky.
He gave me the box and free installation but I still had to pay for the HD every month, said I was not happy with that so he also gave me
25% off for 12 months which will cover the cost of the HD and save me a few extra pounds each month. I'm happy with that.
To everyone who has been unsuccessful, keep trying, you will get there in the end.He who smiles rather than rages is always
the stronger0 -

I rang recently to discuss downgrading my package or possibly cancelling it for a few months for financial reasons, as wouldnt want to be without it totally or for long, we don't go out much and do watch it a lot as a family.
I got through straight away and found they were extremely good to deal with, both people I spoke with were really great, friendly and helpful. I have been given Sky+ HD box, installation and no monthly Sky+/HD charge, as long as I keep some kind of Sky package for 12months(so could still downgrade if we needed to) - if I cancel Sky in next 12 months Id pay £10 p/m for the Sky+ for the remainder of the 12 months, plus I have 20% off my package for 6 months.
Im really happy with how they treated me and with what they offered me, it was fitted yesterday, within couple of days, and Im really pleased with it. As Ive never had any service problems or issue with them in all these years, and they also replaced my dish and cable due to length of time we've had it, Im really happy with it x
Good one. You probably had one of that persons good orders. As I say again and again, they get left with the normal 6 month ones then.
Is anyone actually going to wait or is my advice falling on deaf ears?0 -
Notice how people today have had good offers?
Another bit of advice, when they offer you something then haggle!! Don't just say yes please and accept the first offer!! Make stuff up about other companies and offers like Geordielass.0
