I think we must be a very small but select club !

hi thought i was the only one not getting anywhere, i phoned yesterday to cancel as my sky box is almost dead had some hammer over the past few years so the least they could do is free box, no only a £30 charge for a box not even sure if a new one or hd box was offered, the chap on the end of the phone took me up on my cancellation have 30days or so to change my mind, does anybody know if sky will phone me or change the deal to try and keep me as a customer? holding firm to the very last i think. :beer:thanks to everybody for all the good advice and tips:T
  • thanks op,called sky and said im interested in upgrading to hd and to see if there was any offers as found it cheaper through virgin and didnt really want to cancel sky and was offered free hd box, free installation and free hd channels for 6 months and agreed to change our old multiroom box to our sky plus box that is being replaced by the new hd box, they did say i have to be in another 12 month contract but i think this is because we agreed to have our phone rental changed to them as well, also with people with passwords to accounts,my partner had problems the first time calling to get through to cancellations as was told only account holder can cancel but if you keep on enough they will allow you through to cancellations

Well currently we have Sky HD, 2 multi rooms, Unlimited BB, telephone and the 6 mix - and we've had countless conversations recently with them about reducing our over £90.00 per month bill, only to be told there is nothing to offer us. This is in spite of being with them as a customer for over 10 years.

We even had a conversation last week where when we asked for cancellation the Sky operative 'advised' us that if we cancelled our phone contract with them we could end up in a situation whereby we had no land line and no way of making emergency calls! Now just imagine hearing that if you're vulnerable or on your own...

Sky know they're on to a winner when they have their hooks into you, they're telephone service is the cheapest as it includes line rental which others don't, their unlimited BB is a winner... The tv package is still reasonable money. It's just luck of the draw whether you get a good deal, and if you do make the most of it, cost when it goes back up to full price boy is it expensive!

    Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Have just called Sky. Realised I wasnt goign to get the half price, becuase were on an old box. I succomed to having just the free box upgrade. Suddenly , the Scottish lady throws in a £15 charge for installation . Woooaaa - I was offered installation for free by 2 different agents. Told her Im not interested and to speak to the guy who originally took my call a week ago. Grrrrrrrrrrrr Another flipping wasted 30 minutes

i was offered 1/2 tv package for 6 months or 25% off for 12 months which would tie me into a 12 month contract for both options. or i was offered £5 off line rental for 6 months with no tie in. The guy was really helpful and i just said i wanted to try cut back costs and may cancel the tv due to outgoings.
would love to win an ipad!

I'm sure I read on this thread that each Sky person has a number of offers and those run from thursday-wedneday.? If this is right-those who have called in the last 2 days and had no luck-may be better giving it another go on Friday (think this is when I originally called them after reading this).
It may well be that each person is allocated a number of offers that they can give out? Just a thought....But please don't give up. I am really rubbish at these things and I managed to get a deal (not halfprice-but free upgrade & installation)....try and get into a conversation with the person you are speaking to -if possible.:) Worked for me.Good luck x

We cancelled last year, (paying £23 per month for basic package which at best offers not much more than freeview) & weren't offered anything to stop us cancelling through the 30 day period but 2 weeks after our package had ended we got a generic letter asking for us to return, aslong as we still had our dish & box we could have any package half price for 12 months(no tie-in) & £50 of marks & spencers vouchers thrown in. I advise you stick to your guns;)
  • We have just come off the phone to sky to advise them we were wanting to cancel now we are no longer in the 12 month contract ! They were happy to take our cancellation, didnt ask why we wanted to cancel, or offer us anything in terms of discount or upgrade to HD !

:mad:This is just our luck, but I am now furious as I think their service they are offering is very poor ! They have probably had a big board meeting about the amount of calls they are getting and how much money they are giving away and they are calling our bluff ! I will ring on friday to try again, if not then I will happily cancel given they do not value our custom!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Hi Lovemykids

What did you say when you rang back? I'm not too good at this, I rang the number Monday but was in a 10 min que and chickened out

    hi

sorry haven't replied earlier, only just came on for today.(though I never sign off as always on and off of here all the time! lol)

I basically said that 'I was ringing back as that morning I had been speaking to a friend (that really being all the lovely poster's on here! :) )
and she had told me that she had been given a much better offer and not been with sky as long as me,so I was upset and disappointed at the offer I had been given.
and that I was ringing back to ask how this could be and if they could give me a much better deal (and stated virgin had offered me a box, instal and 6 mths half price, little white lie as hadn't actually rang virgin had just read it on here and on a leaflet!)) and I would stay with them as I have always been happy with Sky's service (little compliments can go a long way :) ) but just couldn't afford a new box and needed to cut costs after xmas and with the vat increase ect. and if they could'nt I would continue to go ahead with the cancellation and take up virgins offer,

I kept a balance of friendliness, firmness and 'woe' :( lol .make sure you ask to go through to cancellations they ask why I just said I had a query with them regarding my cancellation.

I would of rang again if I hadn't of got a deal I was happy with.:)

remember they can't see you,and a kept customer must reflect well on them!

    good luck :)

    oh and I'm not paying the £10 a mth for HD,which wasn't a problem. :D

personally I would wait until mon/tues to ring (going by advice on here),
or if your current box is working ok wait a week or so like jarr suggests to get a better deal (we couldn't wait as our planner stopped working and the box is dying :( lol )
