Out of interest has anyone tried this with Virgin? as I'm with them and wondered if they would offer a similar half price deal?0
-
Well that was the easiest phone call i have ever made lol. I just rang expecting a fight ha ha but the lovely girl on the other end as soon as i said nicely that money was tight and i was ringing to see if there was any offers because at the last resort i would have to downgrade my package or even cancel sraightaway, without any fuss offered me half price for 6 months. Very happy. Thanks to the op for posting about this. It has helped alot.'There are far better things ahead Than any we leave behind '0

I just have basic sky, same box for the last 5 years or something, not + or HD or owt. Pay 21.50 per month for entertainment, kid and discovery package. I'm pretty sure I'm not on a good deal, but have no idea what I should realistically 'ask' for. At the mo, I cant afford to pay any more on the monthly fee (made redundant), can anyone advise what is a standard thing they may offer?
(sorry, have only read the last couple of pages of this thread, but I was getting confused!)
TIA xx
I am in similar boat to you with regards to package and sky box. I called them and they offered FREE Hd box and free installation for 12 month contract. I did ask for half price on top of it but wasnt as lucky as some of the others and didnt get it.
so depends on what you want. if you want new facilities then go for new box and if you are concerned abt money go for half price for few months.0 -
Same as me, no offer given, even after two phone calls. 1st was yesterday evening and told him i was having money difficulties and would there be any offers as didn't really want to cancel. Best he said was to cancel sports so said ok, he then proceeded to cancel with no offers given.
Phoned this morning saying yesterdays person failed to say how much my monthly payments would be, just on the off chance that they would ask why i cancelled sports package. Asked about HD offers and he said none on at present, even though know people on here are getting them. Left at there but will call again this afternoon to see: who knows, 3rd time lucky!!!!0 -

Are you going through to cancellations and telling them you are cancelling the lot, or just speaking to someone about "changing your package"
You need to through to cancellations and tell them you are gonig to cancel!0 -
Hubby called Sky only to be told we would be better of moving to virgin as it was a better deal!!!! lol
He called back again and spoke to someone else, then was offered half price on the TV package for 6 months.
But no new box0 -
I called yesterday morning, went straight through to cancellations, told them I was thinking of either cancelling or at least cutting package down, said I was looking to cut bills etc after Xmas etc etc, he did say he wouldn't be wanting me to cancel, asked me a few questions about what we watch etc. I have full sports package, plus ESPN, multi-room and HD, he said I could cut the Sports and save a packet, but I do like my football and american football, so said not likely, and we use the multi-room, ie when I'm watching a game and the OH wants to watch the soaps or dancing on ice thingymajig shows!
After all that he said yeah we can cut your sky package by half, which was £44 down to £22, still have to pay full £9 for ESPN, and £10.25 each for the HD and Multi-room, so from £73 to £51.50, ESPN will probably get punted soon enough, and may even cancel the HD, so that'll be another £20 a month less.
I did also say that I'd rather not cancel the sports packages but would if necessary, after all I want to cut my bills.
I think some people go in heavy handed, demanding things when at the end of the day you're paying for a subscription for certain things, if you can negotiate a deal to pay less then fine, but if not walk away, cancel the subscription, with over 10 million customers it won't hurt Sky, but can you manage without all the channels, I know I could but badly, I watch so many of the shows!
Good luck and Thanks OPThanks to all the competition posters.0 -
