Ok, so i currently pay only £22.50 for a middle tier Sky tv pack (standard non-HD digital box). Don't have their phone or BB as its with virgin.

Rang Sky to cancel, and the only offer i got was a free HD box. I told him that virgin do a free HD box anyway and are 1/2 for 6 months on subscription. He said he couldn't do anything about the subscription, and that he couldn't do anything more for me. This really annoyed me as i've been with them for 11 years. Anyway, told him to put go ahead and cancel and he gave me 31 days etc.

So i rang back 15 mins later and spoke to a lady, explaining that im not happy. she asked what i wanted, and i said... Free HD+ box, free installation and 1/2 subscription for 6 months, and she processed that without any problem.

..why couldn't the first chap do the same?!

Anyway, its Saturday and the engineers coming out on Monday! Talk about swift!

Best thing to do if you cant get the deal you want is to call back... dont even wait a few days.. call straight back like i did.. well atleast it worked for me.

Just to confirm, i genuinely was going to cancel and go to virgin, its only this last deal that kept me.

each CS rep only has a limited amount of deals they can give out to customers - its on a week to week basis which i think is thursday - wednesday so they dont want to give out all the offers at the start of the week and run out. Remember these deals are supposed to be used to retain customers so if they dont feel you need retaining you wont get an offer !

Phoned, currently pay £20.50 for couple of mixes. No offers on my account so went through to cancellations. got offered 25% off for the year. Also told this would hold if I upgraded at any time during the year so that any future package would be 25% off as well.
  • So after my cancellation last night what do you good people suggest. Hang fire and see if they phone/write to me or ring them back on Monday morning? I think my mistake was ringing at 8pm, the man I spoke to was very gumpy I was trying to make conversation asking when I had my last box etc and how long they last but he offered me nothing, should I have asked if there were any deals on my account before saying I wanted to cancelled I have just telly with them and pay £37 per month, for everything but sports I cancelled that 5 years ago, I have been with sky for 15 years. Any suggestions would be greatful
  • please please please can I ask, has anyone managed this discount without having their contract extended? or re-newed?

I asked about that when getting my offer (see previous page), but she said it would not be possible since i was getting multiple offers... free HD+ box, 1/2 subscription for 12 months and free installation, i couldn't complain to be honest.

She stated that if you have 1/2 price subscription then you have to renew the contract. I think i could have got the HD box free with no renewal of contract, but i wanted 1/2 price subscription more than the not being locked in.. im not going to move anytime soon.

I was thinking exactly that. She didn't even resist, just gave me the offer straight up! I think your right about each CS rep having their own quota of deals!

I just got the half price offer (as I already have HD) and I was told it WASN'T a new contract!!

I think if you take the box, then you are tied in (as that's the bit that costs), but subs without box is not tied in.
  • Thanks OP! Phoned on Thurs and got 1/2 price for 6 months so now paying £20 odd instead of £40! No resistance, just mentioned Virgin deal.

Ours is still on a rolling contract. Didn't have to sign up for another 6/12 months.

exactly. i didnt have a HD box.. so needed one. plus i wanted 1/2 subs.

however, your right, you can get 1/2 subs with no tie-on, if you already have a box.

now that i have my HD box, once my 12 months is up, i will keep ringing for 1/2 subs every 6 months.

    hope that makes sense!

I have managed to get the 50% off offer this afternoon, after calling this morning and being told they could do nothing and did I want them to process the cancellation (obviously that person didn't have any offers left for me) - the one thing I will say is the first thing he said after mentioning the 50% off 6 months or 25% off 12 months is that agreeing to this would mean a new 12 month contract, that didn't bother me as I would be lost without my Sky tv and I have no intention of moving, I have put a note in my diary to ring and cancel the movies in June giving the 30 days notice and the person I spoke to said to call again just before Christmas to see if they will do another offer then as I would be within 1 month of the contract remaining and they should be able to offer another deal but he didn't know what the offers would be. Just pleased to be having the saving.
