Just spoke to a woman who initially offered 10% off my tv!

Told her i was going to see what virgin could offer as they have faster broadband, she then offered the half price tv for 6 months :-) £52 package now £26
    Thanks everyone!

I'm guessing that Sky also know which customers specifically to offer these deals to.
A lot of people are able to phone them to cancel, claiming that Virgin or BT are cheaper, resulting in Sky knocking down the price.
I would imagine Sky have a list of post-codes that do have access to cable, so are able to tell whether or not you're telling fibs.

Unfortunately, short of dropping back to 5 channels or Freeview/freesat, we have no other TV provider in our area.

I phoned Sky on Monday to cancel my ESPN subscription - didn't get offered anything for discount/free.
The only thing they did was to point out that we're still paying £10 per month for unlimited broadband, when it should be £7.50.

Regarding the postcode, I am not so sure that they do, when I rang to "cancel" I told them that I was moving to Virgin, and there is no way anyone within a 5 mile radius of me can get it, and I got half price for a year on my package.

    February GC: £24.60£80.00

I've got the engineer coming on Saturday morning to install my new HD box, but it's just dawned on me that I still have loads of stuff Sky+'d on my standard box and that the box actually belongs to us. I don't want to take out Multiroom as we can't afford the extra £10 a month for it, but wouldn't mind having the box rigged up in my bedroom. Am I right in thinking this is possible, but we'd be limited to just watching whatever the main box is set to downstairs and if it is possible, what do you think the chances are of the engineer doing this for us on Saturday as well?
  • They say "better the devil you know"!!
I have been with Virgin for 10 years. 2 years ago had massive problems when trying to add internet to my package. they failed to turn up on 3 separate occasions and then lied to me when I confronted them (with evidence, (all the calls were recorded!). I received no compensation and I was then tied for a further year. I pay £100.00 for TV, phone and internet with all sports, film and kids channels. I also have a box in my bedroom so there are no arguments!!
In your honest opinions, am I paying too much??
I had a guy from Sky cold call today saying that I should be paying no more than £60.
Answers on a post card please!! ;0)
    Thanks in advance

i read this the other day, I am still in contract with sky (6 months to go) but I called up to cancel the movies (they were half price up until next month) for my 31 day notice...I got 20% off my tv to keep the movies, which makes it a bit cheaper for me, quite happy with it, when I get to the end of the contract I will cancel it all off and just use the box as a freeview as we dont get freeview at all in my area.

I think the best approach would be if you say you are currently looking at your finances and trying to cut back a bit, and are there any deals they could offer you?

If you aren't happy with the offer, say you'll think about it then ring back the next day and ask again. I am a terrible haggler and it actually took me genuinely trying to leave to get a deal I was happy with!

You could get some quotes from the BT Vision and Virgin Media sites to back you up, or ask for a deal you like the sound of from this thread like an upgraded box and 50% off for 6 months?

    Hi,

We've done this in ours & the kids bedrooms, you can only watch the free channels & you need a cable running from the dish to the box, but for free it's great for watching telly in bed!! And you don't have to watch the same channels as downstairs, ours works like a normal freeview box!

Been reading about people paying £15 for their broadband, according to the sky website if you have sky tv unlimited broadband is £12.50 it drops to £7.50 if you have your calls and line rental with them, if your paying more than this maybe people should call them as the prices don't match

Just checked Virgin, I don't have it in my area so I don't have leg to stand on! Still not happy!!!

Just say you're going to get a freeview box!
