Sky offer to me (existing Customer)

  • I'm guessing that Sky also know which customers specifically to offer these deals to.
A lot of people are able to phone them to cancel, claiming that Virgin or BT are cheaper, resulting in Sky knocking down the price.
I would imagine Sky have a list of post-codes that do have access to cable, so are able to tell whether or not you're telling fibs.

Unfortunately, short of dropping back to 5 channels or Freeview/freesat, we have no other TV provider in our area.

I phoned Sky on Monday to cancel my ESPN subscription - didn't get offered anything for discount/free.
The only thing they did was to point out that we're still paying £10 per month for unlimited broadband, when it should be £7.50.

Can you not get BT Vision which is essentially freeview with a few extras and is actually very good for sports as you get free ESPN with certain packages and Sky Sports subscriptions are very cheap.

I was told this too, apparently the price dropped in June but I didn't get a letter. I was told that if I took the new lower price I would be tied into an 18 month broadband contract with Sky.

I have all 3 (and I was overpaying for my broadband) but they only offered me free Sky Plus box (not HD) to replace my basic Sky box and free installation.

Having thought about it since yesterday, new customers get offered more than that and I've been with them for 8 years. I may actually go over to Virgin as broadband is more of a priority for me than TV and as someone said above bb is not Skys strong suit!

Loyalty just doesnt seem to come into it. They seem impressed Ive been with them for 10 years (when in fact its 17 , but I moved house), but it made NO difference to what they offered me.

My dilema is still do I take the offerd free new Sky box or £30 more free credit ? He was adamant that I owuldnt get any offers on my TV package as long as I was on an old Sky digibox.
Tempted to take the money now , and hope the boxes are still free in a coupel of weeks and ring back again . Thoughts guys ? .....

Has anyone managed this the other way? I am definitely feeling more swayed by Virgin (especially since my sky broadband has slowed to a crawl this evening)- has anyone managed to haggle a better deal than the one on their site?
  • I have only just found this thread. I was actually thinking of leaving sky and going to virgin as we only have the basic sky box and when I looked to see how much it would be to upgrade to sky plus and it was showing that it would cost £99 plus installation!!!!

I rang up a couple of days ago and went through to cancellations. I was ready to cancel when the lovely man asked me why I wanted to leave. I told him that virgin were offering a better deal for new customers. He told me there were offers they could make to help me stay. After nearly an hour on the phone  and the guy ringing me back after 58 minutes so it didnt cost me anything we have a new HD sky + box being fitted for free on Monday!!!! :D:D:DI have got it without a HD subscription too.

Also downgraded the broadband as it was showing we wasnt using anywhere near what we could so saved £7.50 per month as we have gone onto Sky Broadband Everyday Lite and it isn't costing us anything now.

I must say I was very impressed with Sky and am very glad I am staying!!!

I think that may be true as when I had a standard box I never got an offer when I tried to cancel to get a deal, I got a cheap Sky+ box and had to call to register my viewing card to the box (so they know which box you have) and have had a cancellation offer since then :T.

I have just been given a HD box so have given my sky+ box to a friend who has a standard box, hopefully they will soon be able to benefit from the cancellation offers too :D

Quoting myself because - I did sign up with Virgin this evening, called Sky to give them notice on my account, and they offered me a free HD+ box and installation (next week), a reduction on my broadband and 25% off my bill for a year if I stayed - I couldn't refuse really!! I also registered to trial broadband through fibre optic if it becomes available in my area, I'm very pleased! Thanks to the thread:)
